Stamford Man Sentenced in Bank Robbery Spree

29-Year-Old City Man Sentenced to 54 Months by Federal Judge in Bridgeport; Patriot Bank on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield Among Banks Hit

The second suspect in a four-month bank robbery spree in Fairfield County in 2009 has been sentenced by a federal judge in Bridgeport.

Spero Moschos, 29, of Stamford, was sentenced Thursday to 54 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for his role in a bank robbery spree in Fairfield County in 2009 in which 12 banks were hit and more than $40,000 was stolen, according to an announcement on Thursday by David B. Fein, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Moschos, who was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Stefan R. Underhill, was the second man to be sentenced in the spree. His alleged accomplice, Christopher Davis, 35, of Stamford, was sentenced last week by Underhill to 151 months in prison based on prior felony convictions for burglary and second-degree robbery, according to Fein's announcement.

Between May and August 2009, Moschos robbed 12 banks in Norwalk, Westport, Stamford, Darien, Wilton, Fairfield and West Harrison, N.Y. A Westport bank was hit twice during the spree. Davis participated in eight of the Connecticut bank robberies with Moschos, according to Fein's announcement.

Moschos and Davis robbed the banks either by passing a threatening note or by making a threatening demand for cash. During an attempted robbery of a branch of TD Banknorth in Westport on May 15, 2009, Moschos gave the teller a note stating "Do not push the alarm. I have a bomb.  Empty your drawer and no one will get hurt. I am watching your hands!" Moschos didn't get any money in that attempt, according to Fein's announcement.
