No shots were fired and no injuries were reported on Stillwater Avenue following reports of a man with a gun Wednesday afternoon, Lt. Deidrich Hohn told Patch.

Hohn said that an independent witness reported to police that there was a man carrying a gun outside the convenience store Casa Villa. When police arrived, a man matching the suspect's description took off running, escaping behind some homes along Stillwater Avenue, then ducking inside 41 Stillwater and running upstairs, he said.

Officers entered the home and cleared the first floor, then waited for the arrival of Stamford's Special Response Team to clear the rest of the home, according to Hohn. At that point, Hohn said the man exited the home without incident.

Police, with the assistance of K-9 units, were on scene searching through backyards and garbage bins for a discarded weapon but, so far, no gun has been recovered, Hohn said. The man was taken into custody but no charges have yet been filed, he said.

Police were still on scene canvassing the area, but Stillwater Avenue was reopened to traffic at around 2:20 p.m.
