Cops: Man Tries to Rob Stamford Tanning Salon, Flees When He's Denied Money

In what police labeled an attempted robbery, a man walked into Stamford's West Beach Tan on West Main Street , demanded money and left when the clerk told him she couldn't give him any money.

According to police, James Isaac Coats, 38, of Hoyle Lane in Severna Park, MD, entered the establishment at approximately 10:15 a.m. Tuesday and demanded the cash. No weapon was displayed during the incident and the suspect fled immediately after being denied.

Police said they located the suspect in the area of Harvard Avenue and Baxter Avenue and brought the clerk to the scene for a positive ID.

Coats was charged with attempt to commit the crime of third-degree robbery. He was held on a $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
