Stamford Mom Makes Cover of CT Magazine

A Stamford native has been selected to appear as the cover model for the July-August issue of Healthy Life CT!

"What happened was Healthy Life held a contest at the end of last year and a friend of mine said, 'You should enter!'" said Robyn Bova, who's lived in Stamford her whole life. "I think they picked ten cover models for the magazine and out of 150 applicants, I got called in for a test shoot. Based on my photo and background, I got picked. I feel pretty honored."

It's easy to see why Bova was selected. She is a realtor with the Higgins Group in both Stamford and Greenwich, and the folks at Stamford couldn't stop raving about her.

"There was no contest," said Marilynn Loglisci, a realtor in the Stamford office. "She's such a kind, sharing person. I've known her for about three years. I know her family. She's just such a great person."

Bova's a certified kettlebell instructor and kickboxing instructor, though her sessions are mostly "one-on-one training with friends." She and her husband, Paul, wrote an instruction pamphlet on proper kettlebell instruction that is still sold world wide.

"We noticed, as [ketllebell exercises] began to grow in popularity, especially in this area, a lot of people were doing them incorrectly," she said. "There were a lot of injuries, and we wanted to make an easy guide to prevent that."

While her father was born in Italy and then raised in Stamford, Bova's mother's parents were born and raised in Stamford, and she met her husband, Paul, when they were 16 (They will celebrate their 20th anniversary on July 4!) He was a Fairfield Prep student and she was attending what at the time was Rippowam Cluster as a dancer.

As a dancer, she trained at Dancers' Loft from 2-and-a-half years old. She would eventually become part owner.

"I became a student teacher and, at 23, they asked if I wanted to become a partner," Bova said. The school closed when the other owners retired and Bova realized it would be too difficult to continue alone with three young children. "It was a hard decision, those students were like my kids. They still are. It was hard to walk away."

Bova has been busy raising three wonderfully successful children: Her 18-year-old son has enlisted in the United States Navy, her 17-year-old daughter will be attending Johnson & Wales University next year for culinary & hospitality schooling while she simultaneously completes her senior year of high school and freshman year of college and her 14-year-old daughter will be attending the Westhill High School Agriscience Program.

If that all wasn't enough, Bova is an active member of Stamford's Backyard Humanitarians, something Bova considers one of her most rewarding experiences.

"We did a lot through Hurricane Sandy," she said. "This group is like my extended family. It's great people doing great things."

When asked if Bova's incredibly healthy lifestyle ever comes in to the office, Loglisci laughed and said she doesn't try to keep them all in line.

"No, she doesn't push [fruits and veggies] on us," she laughed. "But when you look at her, you think, 'Wow, I should be doing whatever she's doing.'"

Bova said the attention from her cover shoot has been a bit overwhelming, particularly on social media sites.

"It's been getting a lot of Facebook attention," Bova said. "It's realy nice... and kind of embarrassing. But I'm really honored by it all. You only get one shot at life. Make the most of it."
