OPIN - Mission and Objectives

OPIN was co-founded by shelter volunteers and is an all-volunteer registered 501(c)3 non-profit.  Our mission is to promote adoption of homeless animals, and to provide assistance to pets in need through medical treatment, training, and education.  OPIN supports pets at Stamford Animal Care & Control and beyond through a suite of welfare services.

Our Vision

OPIN's long-term goal is to have 100% of Connecticut shelter pets find homes.

Our flagship shelter, Stamford Animal Care & Control, reached a 98% adoption rate in 2007 and 2008, thanks in part to OPIN financing the medical, training and dietary needs of the resident pets; investing in programs that increase adoptions; providing educational programs and information to help decrease return and surrender rates, the number of lost pets, and the number of future litters.

OPIN also helps pets and pet guardians beyond the shelter as a way to expand our outreach to pets in need.

Our Dream

Yesterday's dream has become today's reality! OPIN has been supporting the City of Stamford Animal Shelter for (5) years, and now the animals need both OPIN's, and the communities help, and more than ever...OPIN has begun its capital campaign to raise funds to help the City of Stamford replace the antiquated, crumbling 1960’s cinder-block building that is currently operating at 201 Magee Avenue.

We would like to implement state-of-the-art best practices to create a more enriching, comfortable environment for our resident pets, as well as allow for community education events.

We can create adoption meeting rooms, where pets can interact with potential adopters and volunteers in a realistic home-like setting; quarantine rooms for special animals; a community room to hold humane education lectures and movies for children; and a sound-proof cat room, where our felines will feel comfortable.

Stamford Animal Care & Control is already known as one of the most progressive municipal shelters; now let’s expand its capability for positive impact.

If you share our dream, we ask you to donate today and earmark your donation to OPIN’s New Shelter fund.

If it can be imagined, it can be achieved !!
