Opened in 1971, Westhill is one of three public high schools that serve the city of Stamford. Known as the "home of…More the Vikings," Westhill offers students an academic curriculum that includes 14 Advanced Placement courses and a variety of special programs such as the Army Junior ROTC and the Arts Career Academy. The campus includes a gymnasium, pool, media center, health center and the Allyson Rioux softball field.
Westhill also offers its students access to various sports teams, including football, baseball, softball, soccer, hockey, volleyball, tennis and lacrosse. The school colors—purple and gold—and the school's Viking mascot are both borrowed from the Minnesota Vikings, who were among the dominant teams in the newly merged AFL-NFL league at the time of the school's opening.
