K.T. Murphy Elementary School

<p>Located in the Cove neighborhood, K.T. Murphy is one of 12 public elementary schools serving the city of Stamford. The goal of KT Murphy, which serves grades K-5, is "to create a learning environment that encourages and enables each individual to reach his/her academic, social and emotional potential." The school follows the Responsive Classroom philosophy, which focuses on respecting the children and in turn having them respect each other.</p> <p>K.T. Murphy, which was originally known as the "Cove School" has been serving the city for over 100 years and is named after Katherine T. Murphy, who was hired as a teacher at the school in 1893 and went on to become principal of the school in 1913. She continued to serve as principal until her retirement in 1948.</p>
