Theresa Caputo: TLC's Long Island Medium

Theresa Caputo, the star of the overwhelmingly popular hit cable TV program 'Long Island Medium' on TLC is a typical Long Island wife and mother with one distinct difference. She is a 'medium' that possesses a unique gift foresight and communicates with the deceased. As she often puts it, “It's not just her job, it's her life!”

Caputo will bring her 'psychic' expertise to Stamford Center for the Arts Palace Theater on August 11. During the show, she will answer questions from the audience, and then the 'real' fun begins! She chatted with me by phone about her forthcoming two-hour show. She was funny, charming and very down-to-earth.

“I always say you never know what to expect at one of my venues. I answer questions about myself and my gift and my family, so I address some of those questions and then just get right into reading,” said Caputo. I love the venues it's a way for me to connect and meet so many fans—I'm looking forward coming to Stamford.”

She was presented the idea to tour different venues and offer an interactive session with a live audience years ago.

“I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull it off but it was just something I decided to do as a way to reach more of my fans—I always did venues here on Long Island, such as restaurants but nothing as large as I'm going to be doing in Stamford,” she said with enthusiasm.

Theresa discovered that she possessed her psychic ability as a teenager. It's an ability that she cannot turn off.

“I thought it was normal until I reached my teenage years sharing with my friends and things I have been experiencing I would think that it was normal. And then I was 28 about the age I had my daughter, Victoria and I had lunch with a spiritual healer and that's when I discovered spirit communication.”

Her children, Victoria and Lawrence ages 17 and 21, and her husband, Larry of 27 years have gotten used to the idea that she has the ability to communicate with the departed.

“That's how they grew up—whenever anyone asked what I do, they say I speak to dead people when everyone else is a nurse or a teacher so for them it's 'our normal' that's how I phrase it,” explained Caputo.

The third season of 'Long Island Medium' is already in progress featuring fifteen episodes.

“It's just about my family life and my readings. There's always a lot of laughs, a lot of crying and laughing I'm filming Season 3 now! We started in May and we're going all the way to September right before season 3 airs.  I'm just trying to stay connected with my fans—at the end of the day I'm just Theresa Caputo, a medium trying to balance everything and just do a great show with TLC,” she said.

There are no additional projects on the horizon other than wrapping up production on Season 3 of her show on TLC and her regular work with her clients.

She picks up on energy when the spirit has a message to relay to her. The energy serves as a validation to the client that she's reading.

“I usually start with feeling— a presence energy and whether I choose to acknowledge it or not,” sometimes unexpectedly another energy comes through communication.”

Theresa is 'psyched' about her upcoming show at the Palace Theater.

“The fans will expect a really great show it should be fun it will be a lot of healing and it will be a really great night!"
