Volunteers Hold SVFD Drill for the New Department

Stamford Volunteer Fire Department attracts large numbers to Intra-Department Drill.

Tuesday night Firefighters from the Belltown, Turn of River , Long Ridge and Springdale Fire Companies had a four department training drill at the Turn of River Fire Station on Buxton Farms Road.

Over 60 men and women went over the specifics of four of the specialized pieces of equipment that the Volunteer company owns. Discussions on tanker operations from Long Ridge, tower ladder search and rescue operations from Belltown, Heavy Rescue Operations from Turn of River and Engine Company equipment from Springdale were demonstrated.

Members of the new consolidated department familiarized themselves with the many tools and pieces of equipment each apparatus carries.

Members were also invited to attend the dedication of the James Reardon conference board room on Thursday afternoon in memory of long term volunteer "Old man" Reardon.

After the drill, members shared dinner and discussed the Mayor's Fire Plan, mutual aid issues and the ongoing harassment that has been directed at the SVFD by the Firefighter's local union.
