Springdale LL 11s Beat Branford in 1st Round of State Tourney

Stamford Little League starts strong in state baseball tournament

TRUMBULL, CONN., July 17, 2014 – The home runs and solid starting pitching continued as the Springdale Little League 10/11-year-old All Stars, a division of Stamford Little League, downed opponents from Branford 10-6 last night to advance to the next game in the state sectional tournament winner’s bracket.

Jay Lockwood baffled Branford hitters with off-speed stuff for three innings. Patrick Teasdale picked up the save in the sixth after Branford rallied to score four runs.

Connecticut District One winners Springdale (8-0) opened up the game in typical fashion with Todd Guttman launching a three-run rocket deep over the center field fence following walks to the first two hitters. David Collazo added a two-run blast in the bottom of the fifth.
