Springdale 11s in 'must-win' scenario following 9-4 loss to Trumbull American
Stamford Little League team suffers first loss in state sectional tournament.
TRUMBULL, CONN., July 18, 2014 – Trumbull American took control quickly, jumping on Springdale’s two first pitches of the game for back-to-back left-field doubles, and never looked back in a 9-4 win in the Connecticut Little League 10/11-year-old All Stars state sectional tournament.
The District One champions Springdale (8-1) of Stamford Little League must beat District Four winner Branford in the loser’s bracket finale today at 5:30 p.m at Unity Field in Trumbull to stay alive. This will be a rematch of Wednesday’s opening game of the sectionals, which Springdale won 10-6.
District Four winners Trumbull American hit the ball solidly all night against Springdale, taking a quick 2-0 lead by the end of the first half-inning, and belting two home runs in the game. It marked the first game in the 10/11-year-old tourney in which Springdale never had a lead.

Todd Guttman continued his thunderous hitting at the plate, blasting another three-run homer in the middle innings. Jay Lockwood later smacked solo shot to complete the Springdale scoring. David Collazo and Calvin McKeever pitched well in relief.
