Homers fly as weather, bats warm

Abercrombie handed Instant Replay its first loss of the Springdale Majors season as it tries for the second-half crown. Plenty of multi-homer games in North Stamford Majors.

North Stamford Majors

County TV 12, Unity 0 – May 5

County TV’s T.J. Wainwright shut out Unity 12-0 on May 5. Greg Marantz (three hits, three RBI) led the offense, helped by Austin Scheine (two hits, two RBI), Jason Carroll (two hits, RBI) and Cole Cooper (hit, two RBI). Daniel McArthur, Dylan Scheine and Nate Cooper had good games in the field.

Jackson Uhl and Andrew Keaveney each had a hits and flashed the leather for Unity.

County TV 12, First County Bank 9 – May 10

Cole Cooper’s two hits and three RBI helped County TV beat First County Bank 12-9 on May 10. T.J. Wainwright had three hits (homer) and three RBI. Austin Scheine (two hits, RBI) and Andrew Olson (hit, two RBI) contributed for County.

First County’s George Psichopaidas collected three hits (two doubles, three RBI). Montana Semmel hit a two-run blast while James Lavelle had three hits and Justin Lockery two for First County. 

County TV 13, Viking Construction 12 – May 11

County TV rallied with seven in the sixth to beat Viking Construction 13-12 on May 11. Greg Marantz (three hits, HR, three RBI) led the attack while Billy Burkhardt (three RBI) and Jason Carroll (RBI) added two hits. D.J. Hart picked up the win.

Will Garofalo pitched four solid innings for Viking. Kyle McGarry had two hits (four RBI) while Max Decker added two hits (RBI) and Sam Hillenmeyer, two RBI.

First County Bank 12, Sound View Engineers 9 -- May 17 

Montana Semmel and George Psichopaidas cracked homers for First County Bank as it outlasted Sound View Engineers 12-9 on May 17.  Danny D'Arinzo pitched well with relief from Andrew Gray.

Sound View’s Zach Farrell had a clutch two-out, two-RBI hit and Sam Essenfeld had three hits. John Van Dusen pitched well for Sound View.

Viking Construction 11, Italian Center 0 – May 18

Will Garofalo tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts as Viking Construction shut out the Italian Center 11-0 on May 18. Adam Stone belted two homers for Viking (8-4) and teammates Zack Furnari and Kyle Hammel (triple) also hit round-trippers.

Christian Frattaroli (double), Aidan Hamilton and Arjav Chhabra had hits for the IC (7-4), which had great pay in center field by Jack Seegers.

Italian Center 5, Sound View Engineers 4 - May 19 9-6

Jack Seegers’ solo blast tied the game and Christian Frattaroli scored the winner on a passed ball as the Italian Center beat Sound View Engineers 5-4 on May 19. Ryan Kennedy hit two doubles while Tej Chhabra and Pete Blonkvist contributed solid defense to IC (9-6).

Ryan Zmarzlak pitched five strong innings for Sound View. John Van Dusen had two doubles, and Chris Flynn and Andrew Stietzel each contributed one for Sound View (3-13). 

Springdale Majors

Instant Replay 20, RMS Construction 7 – May 19

Anthony Possidento (two hits, four RBI) and Matt Jester (three hits, three RBI) hit back-to-back homers as Instant Replay rolled over RMS Construction 20-7 on May 19.  Sterling Gregg (three RBI), Jaden Dawkins (two RBI) and Jay Lockwood (four RBI) all had three hits for IR (1-0 second half; 10-0 overall). Anthony Lueck and Nick Racaniello added singles.

Justin Palmer, Todd Guttman, Ethan Wilburn (double) and Ameer Theodore all had two hits for RMS (0-1; 1-10).

Abercrombie 12, Clairol 1 – May 19

John Fahan and Justin Torres cracked three hits each and Joe Nathanson hurled a solid five with seven strikeouts as Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance thumped Clairol 12-1 on May 19. A.J. Rakoczy had two hits and a pair of RBI for the Abercrombie (1-0 second half; 7-4 overall).

Calvin McKeever’s solo home run gave Clairol (0-1; 3-8) its only run. Connor Robb added two singles.

Abercrombie 8, RMS Construction 7 – May 21

Aidan Nestor had three hits and scored twice for RMS Construction as it narrowly lost to Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance 8-7 on May 21. Justin Palmer and Ethan Wilburn each had two hits while Andrew Patashnik smacked a triple for RMS (0-2 second half; 1-11 overall).

Boot Camp 13, Clairol 3 – May 21

Ben Nash smacked four hits, Jason Marchese had two (two RBI) and Robert Smeriglio hit his first homer in the Majors as Boot Camp beat Clairol 13-3 on May 21.  Austin Byrnes and Evan Field combined to fan eight for Boot Camp (1-1 second half; 6-5 overall).

Chris Price had two singles and Joshua Harper drove in two for Clairol (0-2; 3-9).

Instant Replay 7, Carpentry Unlimited 6 – May 22

Matt Jester's two-out, bases-loaded double let Instant Replay walk off with 7-6 win over Carpentry Unlimited on May 22. Connor Sullivan (two hits) drove in the tying run while Jay Lockwood added two hits and RBI for IR (2-0 second half; 11-0 overall) Dave Collazo pitched four strong innings and Tyler Tuccinardi contributed with the bat.

Alex Lanzillotti had a two-RBI double for Carpentry (1-2; 6-6). Pete Johnson and Patrick Teasdale each had two hits.

Boot Camp 17, RMS Construction 7 – May 23

Mark Lombardo and Jason Marchese (double, triple) clubbed four hits and drove in three each as Boot Camp beat RMS Construction 17-7 on May 23. Ben Nash added two hits and three RBI for Boot Camp (2-1 second half; 7-5 overall).

Todd Guttman had three hits for RMS (0-3; 1-12) while Aiden Nestor doubled. Ethan Wilburn made several nice defensive plays.

Abercrombie 5, Instant Replay 4 – May 23

A.J. Rakoczy fanned 10 en route as Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance handing Instant Replay its first loss of the season 5-4 on May 23. Joe Nathanson picked up the save, striking out the final batter with the tying run on third. Rakoczy (RBI) and John Fahan each had two hits for Abercrombie (3-0 second half, 9-4 overall) while Justin Torres, Matt O’Connor and Sebastian Del Los Santos added the cause.

Jay Lockwood had two hits for Instant Replay (2-1; 11-1), while Connor Sullivan, Tyler Tuccinardi (double, RBI), and Dave Collazo chipped in.

Clairol 16, Carpentry Unlimited 5 – May 24

Chris Price compiled seven RBI on two homers, one a grand slam, to power to a 16-5 win over Carpentry Unlimited on May 24. Frank Gentile (two RBI) and Connor Robb had three hits, Ben Servedio and Joshua Harper each drove in two. Wesley Gonzalez knock in two on his first Majors hit for Clairol (1-2 second half; 4-9 overall).

Jack Hoch had two hits and three RBI for Carpentry (1-3; 6-7).

AAA/Jr. Majors

Ahneman Kirby 7, Buffalo Wild Wings 4 - May 17 

Ahneman Kirby defeated Buffalo Wild Wings 7-4 on May 17, led by Dominic Donofrio’s four solid innings pitching. Donofrio, Miles Aquila (triple), Sam Engel, Brian Smith and Ryan Oates hit well for Ahneman.

Hits by Ryder Kurtz (double), Nick Huempfner and Matthew DeJesus resulted in an RBI for each for the Wings. Jack Bello and Alec Frohn played sharp defense.

John M. Stanise CPA 15, Instant Replay 4 -- May 19

Nicholas Seitaridis pitched three shutout innings and collected two RBI on three hits to led John M. Stanise CPA over Instant Replay 15-4 on May 19. Justin Orecchio had a triple, single, and three RBI for Stanise while Leonora Lipson (hit), Aryan Kapoor, Christian Bolognese, Krishan Kapoor and Andrew Buchkowski all recorded two RBI. Instant Replay received big hits from Brandon Velez and Andrew Hodel.

Buffalo Wild Wings 8, Vinny’s Backyard 3 -- May 20

Brothers Alec and Ian Frohn allowed a single run in 4.2 innings to led Buffalo Wild Wings over Vinny’s Backyard 8-3 on May 20. Ryder Kurtz had three hits, Jonathan Decker a double and Spencer Campbell scored three times for Wings.

Vinny’s Andrew Carroll had two hits and an RBI while Austin Tovar and Greg Pannone scored runs. 

Ahneman Kirby 7, U.S. Computer Connection 7 – May 20

Peter Passaro's bases-clearing triple helped Ahneman Kirby rally late and tie U.S. Computer Connection 7-7 on May 20. Hits by Miles Aquila, Brian Smith and Sam Engel got Ahneman the lead early with defense by Daniel Salm and Ryan Oates holding it.

For U.S. Computer, Hunter Sparks doubled while Sean Jones, Matthew Lebron and Billy Saunders added hits. Brent Schwartz fielded well.

Haggerty Pools 11, Instant Replay 3 -- May 21

Christian Rubino-Chuckas pitched (seven strikeouts) and hit (five RBI) Haggerty Pools over Instant Replay 11-3 on May 21. Joseph Malozzi, Rodney Louis, Vincent DiTeodoro, Eric Osterhus, Jeffrey D'Ambrosio and Francesca Rubino-Chuckas also had hits for Haggerty.

Bennett Ehret (five Ks) and Matthew Tierney pitched well for IR. Ehret had two hits while Zach Voros and Andrew Hodel each drove in a run for IR. Emerson Day played good defense.

Vinny's Backyard 7, John M. Stanise CPA 0 – May 23

Kyle Bancroft’s pitching and two doubles helped Vinny’s Backyard down John M. Stanise CPA 7-0 on May 23. Greg Pannone and Andrew Carroll had two hits, Ben Sorkin tripled and Andrew Carroll pitched well.

Nicholas Seitaridis fanned six in three shut-out innings for Stanise. Christopher Gatty and Leonora Lipson each had two steals. Christopher Bawden, Kevin Unger and Justin Orecchio make excellent plays in the field.

AA/Minors

Extreme Auto Body 14, John M. Stanise CPA 8 – May 21

Four hits each for C.J. Berlingo and Harrison Mirkin and four RBI for Mirkin and Nicholas Brillo powered Extreme Auto Body over John M. Stanise CPA 14-8 on May 21. Jake Leibowitz collected three hits and two RBI for the winners, who received great defense from Mike DiPreta and Andrew Thompson. Bruce Rutherford and Collin Sasser hit well for Stanise, and Sasser also made a diving catch.

Plaza Realty 9, Toyota of Stamford 5 – May 24

Joseph Colon (double, HR) and Tyler Thielen (three RBI) set the tone as Plaza Realty rallied to down Toyota of Stamford 9-5 on May 24. Andrew Lanzillotti and Nate Smith each had doubles among their two hits. The Markline brothers, William (three hits, double) and James (two hits), led the Toyota offense with Elijah Villanueva adding two hits.

GCG 6, John M. Stanise CPA 2– May 24

Brady Pesaturo displayed crisp fielding at three positions to help GCG down John M. Stanise CPA 6-2 on May 24. Bruce Rutherford paced Stanise at the plate with two hits and an RBI. Third sacker Nick Psichopaidas and catcher Alan Rodriguez played steadily on the diamond.
