Abercrombie, Instant Replay Undefeated After 4 Games

Abercrombie and Instant Replay lead the Springdale Majors at 4-0 after two weeks of play in Stamford Little League.

Springdale Majors Division

Abercrombie 16, RMS Construction 6 – April 21

Three rookies led Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance as it dismantled RMS Construction 16-6 on April 21.

Justin Torres cracked a double and triple and Jake Smith singled to record his first hit in the Majors. James Fahan closed the door on the mound for Abercrombie (3-0). Justin Palmer had two hits, including a triple, for RMS (0-3) while rookie brother combination Aidan and Declan Nestor each chipped in singles.

Instant Replay 10, Carpentry Unlimited 3 – April 22

Jay Lockwood blasted a home run among his two hits while Dave Collazo, Matt Jester and Brendan Mulvany also chipped in two each as Instant Replay (3-0) hammered Carpentry Unlimited 10-3 on April 22. Four IR pitchers combined to hold Carpentry (2-1) to one hit and strike out 12.

Matt Tiplady had Carpentry’s lone hit, while Joe Johnson played an excellent game defensively.

Boot Camp 8, Clairol 7 – April 23

Boot Camp (1-2) thwarted a late-game rally to down Clairol 8-7 on April 23. Mark Lombardo (triple, two RBI), Jason Marchese and Ben Nash cracked two hits for the victors while Ethan Davis drove in two with a two-out single. Shortstop Robert Smeriglio made outstanding back-to-back fielding plays in the third.

Ben Servedio blasted a three-run homer in the top of the sixth to bring Clairol (0-3) within a run of tying the game. Calvin McKeever clubbed three hits, drove in two runs and tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for Clairol. Teammate Connor Robb also had three hits and two RBI, and Chris Price added two hits.

Abercrombie 20, RMS Construction 4 – April 24

Joe Nathanson tossed three innings and struck out four as Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance demolished RMS Construction 20-4 on April 24. Dylan Cocomo added a single for Abercrombie (4-0).

Ethan Wilburn had two hits, one a triple, for RMS (0-4). Todd Guttman (triple) and rookie Kyle Bancroft singled.

Instant Replay 1, Carpentry Unlimited 0 – April 25

Instant Replay scored in the bottom of the eighth to squeak out a 1-0 extra-inning victory against Carpentry Unlimited on April 25.  Both teams had early scoring opportunities, but excellent defense kept the game scoreless until the very end.

Four IR pitchers limited Carpentry to four hits on the night. Dave Collazo and Jay Lockwood led the IR offense with two hits each. Anthony Possidento played an excellent defensive first base for Instant Replay (4-0).

Matt Tiplady went five-plus innings for Carpentry (2-2), giving up no runs on three hits and striking out 13.  He also led Carpentry's offense with two hits. Pete Johnson and Patrick Teasdale also had hits.

Boot Camp 8, Clairol 6 – April 26

Flawless defense and a five-run rally that capitalized on walks helped Boot Camp outlast Clairol 8-6 in extra innings on April 26.

Mark Lombardo rapped three hits for Boot Camp (2-2) and split the mound chores with Evan Field, combining to strike out seven. Jason Marchese, Ben Nash, Aidan Rella and Chase Senecal also had hits.

Frank Gentile, Joshua Harper (double, two RBI) and Ben Servedio (double) each had two hits for Clairol (0-4). Starting pitcher Calvin McKeever tossed three scoreless innings and drove in two runs on a double. Rookie Aiden Neigler collected his first hit in the Majors.

North Stamford Majors

Italian Center 11, Sound View 4 - April 27

Pitcher Ethan Skaug struck out six as The Italian Center (4-2) downed Sound View Engineers (0-5) on April 27. Pete Blonkvist led the IC offense with two hits (triple), two walks and three runs. Christian Frattaroli (double) and Ryan Kennedy (double) also had two hits for the IC.

Sound View challenged late in the game, scoring three times in the fifth. The team’s offensive was powered by two-hit games from Ryan Ebright (double), Matt Hallinan (two doubles) and Andrew Stietzel. Sam Essenfeld and Chris Flynn also had doubles. 

AAA/Jr. Majors Division

John M. Stanise CPA 2, Ahneman Kirby 0 – April 22

John M. Stanise CPA defeated Ahneman Kirby 2-0 in a five-inning contest ended by darkness.

Leonora Lipson doubled and pitched two scoreless innings for Stanise while Justin Orecchio hurled three scoreless innings and struck out eight. The game’s only scoring came in the third when Stanise scored on a fielder's choice by Nicholas Seitaridis and an RBI single by Christian Bolognese.

Strong pitching performances by Miles Aquila and Dominic Donofrio kept Ahneman Kirby in the game until the end.

Buffalo Wild Wings 10, Instant Replay 4 – April 22

Buffalo Wild Wings rallied from a 4-1 deficit to stampede over Instant Replay 10-4.

Ryder Kurtz smacked two hits, stole three bases and struck out all three batters he faced on the mound in closing the game for Buffalo Wild Wings. Sean Huempfner and Ian Frohn made the play of the game for the team, combining to nail a runner caught in a pickle.

Asher Berni collected two hits and made a spectacular stop at second base for Instant Replay.

U.S. Computer Connection 5, P2 Telecom 0 – April 23

Hunter Sparks fanned nine over four innings to lead U.S. Computer Connection to 5-0 shutout victory over P2 Telecom.

Casey Ciocci’s three hits, including a two-RBI double, and Connor Mcgee, who laced a double and triple and drove in two, paced the U.S. Computer offense. First baseman Gianne Jones flashed the leather for the victors, who were also aided by rally-crushing catch from Billy Saunders in the fifth.

Jerry Conetta of P2 pitched a solid two innings, limiting the opposition to a single run. Ryan Page pitched well and helped himself out of trouble by being in the middle of a 9-1-2 out at the plate bookended by nice efforts from right fielder Martin Dushi and catcher Jakob Sargent.

Haggerty Pools 12, John M. Stanise CPA 6 – April 27

John M. Stanise CPA jumped out to an early 4-0 but Haggerty Pools responded with five in the bottom of the first and never gave back the lead in a 12-6 victory on April 27.

Rodney Louis and Michael Maounis each had three RBI for Haggerty while Christian Rubin-Chuckas and Vincent DiTeodoro both had doubles. Rubin-Chuckas and Eric Osterhus pitched well for Haggerty.

Kevork Tchakmakjian had two hits, including a double that scored Leonora Lipson and Justin Orecchio.  Tchakmakjian also made the play of the game by taking a hard shot to the stomach and staying with it to make an out at first late in the game.  Christopher Bawden, Nicholas Seitaridis and Christian Bolognese also had RBIs for Stanise.

US Computer Connection 11, Buffalo Wild Wings 1 – April 27

Michael Bellacicco’s pitching, fielding and hitting booted up U.S. Computer Connection in a 11-1 victory over Buffalo Wild Wings on April 27. Bellacicco's two doubles and Connor Mcgee’s two doubles and triple led the winner’s offense. Casey Ciocci added two doubles and Matthew Lebron had a two-RBI single.

Reliever Hunter Sparks extinguished the Wings’ hopes for a late-game comeback.

Ryder Kurtz pitched a solid 2-plus innings for the Wild Wings. Jordan Bowbeer singled, stole second and then third before scoring the team’s lone run on Nick Huempfner's double.

AA/Minors Division

Plaza Realty 9, Toyota of Stamford 9 – April 22

Darkness halted a 9-9 slugfest between Plaza Realty and Stamford Toyota after five innings on April 22.

Thibaud Rubin led Toyota with a three-run homer, a triple and single. Elijah Villanueva (two runs) and Connor Robinson also had three hits for the team, which scored five runs in the final frame.

Jack Driscoll (double, three RBI), Joseph Colon (double), Andrew Lanzillotti, David Schleimer and Jake Frattaroli each collected two hits for Plaza Realty. Tim Wong and Joseph Colon combined to pull off a double play in the field.

Stamford Toys 14, Super K 3 – April 24

Fine fielding and four hits by shortstop Nicholas Cannon helped Stamford Toys defeat Super K 14-3 on April 24.  Brady Moore (double), Zach Voros (five runs scored), Caleb Weiss (five runs scored) and Zachary Price all had three hits. Michael Garofalo and Billy Parker added had two hits each and stellar defense.

Super K scored all its runs in the sixth with RBI singles from Markus Dushi and Travis Fuchs. Jackson Wilkes added an RBI groundout. Dhruv Khanna contributed two hits and some slick fielding at short.

GCG 12, John M. Stanise CPA 7 – April 24

Benjamin Gragg’s perfect night at the plate, going four-for-four with two doubles and four RBI, drove GCG to a 12-7 victory over John M. Stanise CPA April 24. Max Fink (triple, three RBI) and Brady Pesaturo (three runs) each had three hits for the winners.

Colin Sasser ripped two triples and knocked in five runs for Stanise, which also received two hits each from Ryan Lash and Yanni Karipides. 

Stamford Toys 7, Plaza Realty 3 – April 26

Three hits each by Michael Garofalo and Ethan Tracey helped Stamford Toys squeak by Plaza Realty 7-3 April 26.  Matthew Quaglino and Jack Baker also chipped in key hits. Case Clapps, Jonathan McDow and Billy Parker made outstanding fielding play for Toys.

Tim Wong and Joe Colon each had two hits for Plaza and contributed sweet putouts in the field. Evangeline Kanaris had a line shot hit and a nice putout at third.

John M Stanise 4, Extreme Auto Body 0 – April 26

John M. Stanise CPA defeated Extreme Auto Body 4-0 on April 26 behind solid defense and three hits apiece from Yanni Karipides and Logan O'Neill, who also scored two runs. Colin Sasser and Ryan Lash each contributed two hits and Bruce Rutherford showed a steady glove at first base and on the mound. 

Super K 6, Toyota of Stamford 1 – April 26

Aniket Iyer (double) and Travis Fuchs smacked three hits each to lead Super K to a 6-1 victory over Toyota of Stamford on Saturday. Lorenzo Terrenzio added a double while Markus Dushi and Justin Fuchs also contributed at the plate.

Nicholas Childs and Roman Stasi led Toyota with two hits each. Connor Robinson also hit a double.

John M. Stanise CPA 4,  Astacio Plumbing 1 – April 27

Yanni Karipides’ two-RBI single knocked in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth with Nick Psichopaidas scoring the game's first run as John M. Stanise CPA downed Astacio Plumbling and HVAC 4-1 on April 27. Ryan Lash and Mason Mui each added an RBI while Logan O'Neill added two hits for Stanise. Great defense was also provided by Colin Sasser and Bruce Rutherford.
