Abercrombie, Carpentry, Instant Replay open Springdale Majors with 2 wins each

Abercrombie, Carpentry and Instant Replay jumped out to 2-0 records in opening week action for the Springdale Majors Division of the new Stamford Little League.

The inaugural season of the Stamford Little League, formed by the 2014 merger of the North Stamford and Springdale Little Leagues, opened with Majors Division action on April 5.

Instant Replay 12, Clairol 2 – April 5

Matt Jester and Jay Lockwood led Instant Replay at the plate and on the mound, defeating defending league champions Clairol 12-2 in the April 5 season opener.

The two combined for a three-hitter over four innings in the mercy-rule shortened game. Lockwood unloaded a three-run homer and scored twice. Jester singled, double and scored three times. Jaden Dawkins smashed a triple and single for IR while Anthony Possidento (triple), David Collazo, Sterling Gregg and Tyler Tuccinardi added hits. Anthony Lueck made a nice running catch on a fly ball.

Clairol’s Ben Servedio had a single and double, and Joshua Harper’s single drove in a run. Shortstop Chris Price made a nice diving catch behind third.

Carpentry Unlimited 3, RMS Construction 1 – April 5

Ben Feldman doubled home two runs in the bottom of the fifth and then scored the third as Carpentry Unlimited overcame RMS Construction 3-1 on April 5. Jack Hoch and RJ Salvatore set the table for Carpentry with hits that inning.

Todd Guttman drove in RMS’s sole run in the third with his second hit of the game, doubling home Aiden Nestor who just beat a relay by Carpentry brother combo Joe and Pete Johnson. Justin Palmer of RMS also had a hit. 

Matt Tiplady notched the win in relief for Carpentry with seven straight strikeouts. Starter Patrick Teasdale allowed only three hits while striking out five over 4.2 innings. Rookie Matt Mailhot pitched well for RMS, scattering four hits and striking out six over 4.2 innings.

Both team played excellent defense through the game.

Abercrombie 6, Boot Camp 2 – April 5

Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance defeated Boot Camp 6-2 on April 5. Rookies James Fahan of Abercrombie and Luke Noonan of Boot Camp each smacked doubles for their first hits in the Majors.

Instant Replay 10, Clairol 3 – April 8

Big hits and bases on balls let Instant Replay walk away from Clairol 10-3 on April 8.

Jay Lockwood clubbed three hits, David Collazo cracked a home run, Sterling Gregg and Anthony Possidento added two hits, and Jaden Dawkins had one for Instant Replay (2-0), which capitalized on 10 walks issued by opposing pitchers. IR hurlers Collazo, Jester and rookie Connor Sullivan combined to strike out 10.

Calvin McKeever and Connor Robb (one RBI) had back-to-back doubles for Clairol (0-2) in the sixth. Frank Gentile added a single, and drove in two runners on the day. Chris Price added a single in the first inning. Rookie Anthony Lowe played excellent defensive at second for Clairol.

Carpentry Unlimited 16, RMS Construction 2 – April 9

Carpentry Unlimited's Matt Tiplady had four hits and drove in four at the plate while striking out 12 in five innings on the hill, leading his team to a 16-2 victory over RMS Construction on April 9.

Jack Hoch drove three on three hits for Carpentry (2-0). Patrick Teasdale added two hits and Joe Johnson two RBI to the hitting attack.

Abercrombie 1, Boot Camp 0 – April 10

Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance edged Boot Camp 1-0 in a pitching duel. Abercrombie (2-0) pitchers A.J. Rakoczy and Matt Eldredge combined for 13 strikeouts while Boot Camp (0-2) hurlers Robert Smeriglio and Austin Byrnes K’d eight while allowing just three hits.

The game’s lone run came when Joe Nathanson plated Rakoczy in the bottom of the first.
