Carpentry sweeps Boot Camp to capture Springdale Little League first-half title

Carpentry Unlimited kicked Boot Camp out of first place in the final week of play, beating its rival twice to capture the Springdale Little League title for the first-half of the 2013 season.

Carpentry won six straight to finish the half 8-2. Boot Camp, which held a share of first from the start of the season until its last game, lost four straight to end the half in a 6-4 tie for second with Clairol, the league’s defending champions, who bounced back from an 0-4 start.

Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance, the only team to defeat Carpentry, tied for third with RMS Construction at 4-6. Instant Replay concluded the half with a 2-8 mark.
     
Carpentry Unlimited 3, Boot Camp 1 – May 6  
Carpentry Unlimited took sole possession of first place with a nail-biting 3-1 victory against rivals Boot Camp on May 6.

Nick Chuckas and Matt Tiplady partnered to limit Boot Camp to only five hits in six innings. Matt Doyle put Carpentry ahead to stay with an RBI double in the top of the sixth. Second baseman Patrick Teasdale made several slick plays to thwart several Boot Camp attempts to rally.
   
Boot Camp pitchers Austin Byrnes and Robert Smeriglio kept pace with the opposition, yielding just four hits. Evan Field led the Boot Camp offense with two hits.
  
Abercrombie 12, RMS Construction 0 – May 7  
Andrea O'Connor fired a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts as Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance beat RMS Construction 12-0.

A.J. Rakoczy's two-run homer in the first, the first of his three hits, put Abercrombie in the lead to stay. Matt Eldredge had three hits while O'Connor, Adrian Nunez (triple) and John Fahan added two apiece. Rookies Jordan Nunez and Danny Ramos turned in fine defensive plays for the winners.

Justin Palmer had the lone hit for RMS while Todd Guttman had two walks. Ethan Wilburn held his own in relief for RMS.   

Clairol 8, Instant Replay 2 – May 8
Joey Price hurled a complete game, three-hitter as Clairol rallied to defeat Instant Replay 8-2.

Price and Jelani Jackson had two hits each and scored half of the team’s runs. Calvin McKeever drove in a key run with a two-out single while Dave Marciczkiewicz and Tyler Gillman added rally-continuing hits. Third baseman Jay Daniel made an outstanding catch, crashing into the fence to snare a foul pop.

Jaden Dawkins had two hits for Instant Replay while sharing the pitching duties. Matt Jester added a single.

Carpentry Unlimited 11, Boot Camp 1 – May 10
Carpentry Unlimited’s seven-run fifth inning broke open the decisive game to help it capture the league’s first-half title, defeating second-place Boot Camp 11-1 on May 10.

Pitchers Matt Tiplady and Nick Chuckas combined to hold Boot Camp to a run on three hits. Tiplady also led the offense with two hits, including a triple, and two runs scored. Chuckas, Matt Doyle, Matt Rubino and Patrick Teasdale each contributed two hits. Henry Carucci played solid defense.

Austin Byrnes (double), Christian Tarzia and Evan Field had hits for Boot Camp.  Max Goldfluss and Robert Smeriglio led the defensive for Boot Camp.  

RMS Construction 7, Abercrombie 3 - May 10
Erik Bannister hurled complete game with nine strikeouts as RMS Construction defeated Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance 7-3 victory.

RMS featured a balanced offensive attack. Matt Mattioli’s single and double lead the lineup followed by Drew Papp’a two singles, Ethan Wilburn’s single and two walks, a triple from Isaac Cadigan, a double from Anthony Karwaski, and a single by Justin Palmer.

Abercrombie plated its first run when Adrian Nunez drove in his younger brother, rookie Jordan Nunez, with a triple. John Fahan drove in the older Nunez on a fielder’s choice. Abercrombie threatened in the bottom of the sixth by loading the bases but was not able to bring any runs home.
 
Clairol 9, Instant Replay 8 – May 11
Chris Price had three hits including a bases-loaded double to drive in two in the bottom of the fifth to give Clairol the final lead in defeating Instant Replay 9-8 on May 11.

Clairol’s Ben Servedio came in for the save to give rookie Calvin McKeever his first pitching win in the majors. Shortstop Joey Price had two singles and a double while also starting the game-ending double play in the field. Jelani Jackson, who pitched two strong innings, had two doubles, Servedio had two hits and rookie Jay Daniel added a key hit during the comeback.
 
Matt Jester and Ian Macari (double) drove in runs with hits for Instant Replay while Anthony Possidento singled and stopped an early Clairol rally with a backhand snare of a line drive at third to start a double play. Sterling Gregg added a hit for the IR attack.

Instant Replay 16, Abercrombie 3
Instant Replay broke out the bats in a 16-3 victory over Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance.

Matt Jester had four hits, including two triples, and drove in three; Jaden Dawkins scored four times and had three hits; Ian Macari had three hits and three RBIs; and Anthony Possidento added three hits and three RBIs. Mike Smolak drove in two, Tyler Tuccinardi added a single and Anthony Lueck reached base twice and scored a run.

Andrea O’Connor had two hits and two RBIs for Abercrombie while John Fahan and A.J. Rakoczy scored runs for the team.

Abercrombie 3, Instant Replay 2
Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance edged Instant Replay 3-2 behind the seven strikeout pitching of A.J. Rakoczy.

Adrian Nunez and Rakoczy had two hits and scored a run each while Matt Eldridge added an RBI double and rookie Joe Nathanson picked up a single and RBI in the win.

Ian Macari’s two hits, including a triple and RBI, led the Instant Replay offense. Sterling Gregg and Matt Jester (RBI) each singled. Jay Lockwood and Jester combined on the mound to only allow three runs and strike out eight for Instant Replay.
