Westhill Softball Beats New Canaan 2-0 [Video]

Allison Macari tossed a four-hitter Friday as the undefeated Westhill softball team blanked New Canaan 2-0 in Stamford.

Playing their first game since Saturday due to the week-long rain, the Vikings (18-0, 16-0) gave Macari all the support she needed by pushing across single runs in each of the first two innings. Macari allowed four singles while striking out five and walking just one.

The Rams (14-5, 12-5) did generate a couple scoring opportunities, getting runners to third with two outs in the fourth and fifth innings. However, Macari got stronger as the game went, allowing only one runner over the final three innings.

Sophomore Cydney Ventura, who gave up only three hits,  took the loss for the Rams.

Westhill scored its initial run in the bottom of the first without the benefit of a hit. Allie Souza led off with a walk and later scored on a wild pitch. In the second inning, Eileen Tublin tripled and came home on a passed ball.

New Canaan, currently fourth in the FCIAC standings, can clinch a home game in the quarterfinals by beating McMahon in its regular-season finale on Saturday.

Friday's contest began a busy weekend for the Vikings, who will conclude the regular season by playing three games in as many days.

Westhill hosts Bassick on Saturday, then plays at Darien on Sunday in a game that has been postponed four times this week.

With Fairfield Warde upsetting Darien 1-0 Friday, Westhill only needs to beat winless Bassick to clinch the top seed for the FCIAC playoffs.
