Westhill Girls Soccer Advances To Class LL Quarterfinals

Alex Maciejewski scores to lead Vikings to a 1-0 victory over Masuk

Alex Maciejewski scored the game's only goal in the second half as the Westhill girls soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class LL girls soccer tournament with a 1-0 victory over No. 12 Masuk on Saturday.

Maciejewski's goal backed Allie Souza, who stopped five shots for her 12th shutout of the season.

The fifth-seeded Vikings (13-2-4) will take on FCIAC rival Staples in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 2 p.m.. The Wreckers eliminated defending state champion Shelton 1-0 on penalty kicks (14-11 in the penalty kicks).

Westhill has reached the state final in each of the last two seasons, winning the state title in 2009 and losing last year to Shelton.
