Berths will be decided on Wednesday as all three teams are in action

Heading into the final full day of  the regular season on Wednesday, Westhill is battling with New Canaan and Danbury for  the final two
spots in the FCIAC boys soccer playoffs.

New Canaan (7-3-5, 26 points) and Westhill (8-5-2, 26 points) are tied for seventh, one point ahead of Danbury (6-2-7, 25 points).

All three teams are in action on Wednesday as New Canaan hosts Fairfield Ludlowe at 7 p.m., Westhill entertains Fairfield Warde at 4 p.m., and Danbury is on the road at Bassick in a 4 p.m. start.

If Danbury beats Bassick ( 4-7-3), as it should, New Canaan and Westhill will need wins to get the last two berths.

If the Hatters win and the Rams and Vikings get the same number of points (tie or loss), the final slot will come down to a tiebreaker. Westhill and New Canaan battled to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 17.

Westhill is trying to complete a remarkable run to get into the playoffs as the Vikings have gone 8-0-2 since starting 0-5, which included forfeiting three wins for using an ineligible player. One of those early triumphs was a 7-1 victory over Darien, the league's suprise team.

Darien (11-2-3, 36 points), which wrapped up its regular season with a 1-1 tie on Monday, will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

Trumbull (10-1-4, 34 points) can jump over the Blue Wave and secure the No. 2 spot with a win at Trinity Catholic on Wednesday.

Norwalk (13-1-1, 40 points) clinched the top seed for the second straight year with a 4-2 win over New Canaan, the defending CIAC Class L state champions, on Monday.

Defending three-time FCIAC champion Staples (9-2-4, 31 points), Greenwich (9-4-2, 29 points) and Wilton (9-5-2, 29 points) also have clinched playoff spots.

Westhill has been off since routing winless Harding 7-0 on Friday while Danbury is coming off back-to-back ties against Wilton (0-0) and Staples (2-2).

Fairfield Warde, which lost to Staples 2-1 in last year's FCIAC finals, did not qualify for the playoffs this season. The playoffs begin on Friday.
