After a suffocating defensive effort in a 43-23 victory over New Canaan, the girls basketball team visits Norwalk on Tuesday (5:45 p.m.) in a game with major FCIAC playoff implications.

The Black Knights almost shit out New Canaan in the first half, allowing just two points en route to a 25-2 halftime lead.

The win left Stamford (9-5, 9-7) in a three-way tie for sixth in the FCIAC standings with Staples and Norwalk, which defeating Darien 66-53 on Friday.

Those three teams are one game ahead of Darien, Fairfield Warde and Westhill, who are tied for ninth at 8-6.

Trinity Catholic, which snapped Fairfield Warde's six-game winning streak with a 61-49 on Friday, visits Bassick on Tuesday (5:15 p.m.) The Crusaders (11-6, 10-5) are fifth in the FCIAC standings.

Westhill, which suffered a 42-40 loss to Staples on Friday, hosts St. Joseph (13-3, 11-3) at 5:45 p.m.

In boys action Tuesday,  Stamford hosts Norwalk, Trinity Catholic entertains Bassick and Westhill visits St. Joseph in 7 p.m. starts.

The Black Knights (7-7, 6-6) followed up their 50-39 upset of Ridgefield with an 82-40 drubbing of New Canaan while  Norwalk (9-6, 7-6) handled Darien 52-30 on Friday.

The Crusaders (11-4, 10-3) look to rebound from Friday's 59-54 loss to Warde, but will certainly need a stronger effort against the Lions (12-3, 10-3) in a matchup of teams who are tied for third in the FCIAC standings. Bassick defeated Wilton 85-67 on Friday.

Westhill (10-4, 9-3) puts its six-game winning streak on the line against St. Joseph (14-0, 12-0), which hammered Bridgeport Central 92-56 on Friday.
