Ben Pierre Saint finished second in the 132-pound weight class on Saturday in the state Open wrestling championship in New Haven and advanced in the New England championships next weekend in Providence.
Pierre-Saint, who won the Class LL title last week, lost to top Miguel Calixto of Windham 6-3 in the final. The Stamford wrestler was seeded second.

Pierre-Saint defeated Garrett Hastings of Farmington 13-3 in the second round and Josh Fontanez of Portland 11-4 in the quarterinals. Then in the semifinals, Pierre-Saint posted a 13-8 victory over Pharoah Eaton of Fairfield Warde.
In the 106-pound class, Westhill's Pascal Mador lost a 6-1 overtime decision to Danbury's Kevin Jack in the finals and also advanced to the New Englands. The top four in each class qualified.

The Westhill boys hockey team advanced to the finals of the FCIAC tier II playoffs with a 4-1 victory over city rival Stamford on Friday.
Neal Smolinski scored two goals and Ryan Silk and Lukas Znosko each added one for the Vikings, who improved to 6-12-2.
Westhill will face Trumbull in the tier two finals next Saturday at the Terry Conners Rink at 4 p.m. Trumbull advanced with a 3-1 win over Fairfield on Friday.
Zach Fornaciari scored the lone goal in the second period for Stamford, which concluded its season at 6-14-1.
Westhill built a 2-0 lead after the first period, then put away the game with two goals in the third period
Hunter Alderman made 33 saves for Stamford while Adam Goldstone stopped 18 shots for Westhill.

Christian Keator scored the tiebreaking goal on the power play just 13 seconds into the third period Saturday as the boys hockey team held off upset-minded Trinity Catholic 2-1 in the FCIAC's tier one playoffs at the Terry Conners Rink.
Mark Laoue gave the Cadets 1-0 lead 4 1/2 minutes into the second period before the Crusaders tied it on Jamey Shea's power-play goal with four minutes remaining in the second.
Freshman goaltender Kyle Odierno kept Trinity Catholic in the game with 34 saves while Ron Johnson stopped 23 shots for St. Joseph.
The Cadets improved to 14-7 and will take on No. 2 seed Ridgefield (bye in the first round) in the semifinals on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Terry Conners.
Trinity Catholic, which started 2-10, will take a 9-12 record into the state tournament.
In Saturday's other first-round game, New Canaan routed Wilton 9-2 to set up a semifinal showdown against top seed Darien at 6 p.m. at Terry Conners.
