Chris Walters erupted for 25 points as the Westhill boys basketball team defeated 65-57 on Friday to claim town bragging rights.

It was the seventh win in eight games for the Vikings, who improved to 11-5 overall and 10-4 in the FCIAC. Trinity Catholic dropped to 12-5 and 11-4.

Mark Edwin scored 16 points and Tony Dobbinson added 10 for Westhill, which rallied from a 32-27 halftime deficit by allowing only 25 points in the second half.

Trinity Catholic went scoreless for 5 1/2 minutes after leading 51-47 with under six minutes left in the fourth quarter as the Vikings turned around the game with a 14-0 run.

Jason Boswell scored 20 points and Schadrac Casimir added 14 for the Crusaders. Westhill help put away the game by shooting 14-of-15 from the foul line.

Trinity Catholic had built a 39-27 advantage in the third quarter of a back-and-forth game.

Barry Boderick scored 19 points and brother Bryan added 15 Friday as the Stamford boys basketball team coasted to a 65-31 victory over Darien.

It was the fourth straight win for the Black Knights, who improved to 9-7 overall and 8-6 in the FCIAC. Stamford has climbed into a tie for sixth in the FCIAC standings with Bridgeport Central and Greenwich.

Ancel Nevers added 13 points for Stamford, which nearly shut out Darien in the first quarter in building a 24-2 cushion after the opening eight minutes.

Darien regrouped in the second quarter, outscoring Stamford 15-14, but the Black Knights turned the game into a blowout with a 19-4 burst in the third period to take a 57-21 lead into the final period.

George Phillips scored nine points to lead the Blue Wave, who dropped to 2-14 and 1-13.

Shawn Padilla had 13 rebounds and five blocks for Stamford.

The Trinity Catholic girls basketball team edged Westhill 40-38 on Friday to win the city championship and clinch an FCIAC playoff spot.

Ali Palma scored 13 points and Mackenzie Griffin added 11 for the Crusaders, who improved to 13-6 overall and 12-5 in the FCIAC. Trinity Catholic is in fifth place in the FCIAC standings.

After Westhill battled back to tie the game at 38-38, Trinity Catholic's Kellie Hurd hit two free throws with 34 seconds remaining.

Megan D'Alessandro scored 15 points to lead Westhill, which dropped to 9-9 and 8-8. The loss likely eliminated the Vikings from the FCIAC playoffs.

Tyler Evans added 10 points for Westhill, which jumped to a 15-4 lead following the first quarter. Trinity Catholic answered with an 18-6 spurt in the second period to take a 22-21 lead at the half.

Trinity Catholic extended its advantage to 31-22 in the third period before the Vikings battled back.

The Stamford girls basketball team got the best of Darien on Friday night and now have the upper hand in the FCIAC playoff race.

Kelsey Cognetta scored 17 points and Lauren Schapiro added 16 for the Black Knights, who defeated the Blue Wave 52-32 in Darien.

Stamford improved to 10-8 overall and 10-6 in the FCIAC. The victory lifted the Black Knights into a tie for seventh in the conference standings with Fairfield Warde, a 56-50 winner over Ridgefield on Friday.

Darien slipped to 10-8 and 9-7 and dropped into a tie for ninth with Staples, which fell to Trumbull 55-34 on Friday. Darien hosts Warde on Monday in another critical contest.

Meg Marren scored 16 points and Kate Bushell added 10 for the Blue Wave, who icould not maintain a fast start after grabbing a 12-8 lead after the first quarter.

Stamford has a tough game at home against St.Joseph on Monday. Then on Wednesday in then final regular-season games, Darien is at Bassick and Stamford visits Warde.

The Stamford boys team posted a 3-2 overtime victory over Stamford on Saturday.

CJ DelVaglio scored the winning goal - his second of the night - for the Black Knights just over six minutes into the extra period.

Greenwich held a 2-1 lead after the second period, but Zach Fornaciari scored the tying goal for the Black Knights with nine minutes left in regulation.

Brett Backman scored in the first period and Matt Lodato tallied in the second to give the Cardinals their lead.

DelVaglioscored his first goal in the second period for Stamford, which improved to 3-12-1. Greenwich dropped to 3-14.

Vinny Scorese made 18 saves for Greewich and Hunter Alderman stopped 15 shots for Stamford.
