Town bragging rights will be on the line when the and Westhill boys and girls basketball teams clash on Friday.

The girls square off at Westhill at 5:45 p..m. while the boys face each other at Trinity Catholic at 7 p.m.

On the girls side, Trinity Catholic (12-6, 11-5) is in good position to secure an FCIAC playoff spot, holding down fifth place in the FCIAC standings.

However, Westhill (9-8, 8-7), which is coming off a loss to St. Joseph, likely needs a win on Friday to keep its playoff hopes alive.

The Viking are 11th in the standings, one game behind Darien, Stamford, Staples and Fairfield Warde, who are all tied'for seventh at 9-6.

On the boys side, Westhill has been one of the league's hottest teams and almost upset top-ranked and undefeated St. Joseph on Tuesday before falling 67-65 on a last-second shot. St. Joseph's John Jennings hit a jumper with 11 seconds remaining to snap a 65-65 tie.

The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Vikings (10-5, 9-4), who are fifth in the FCIAC standings.

Trinity Catholic (12-4, 11-3) rebounded from a 59-54 loss to Warde to rout Bassick 92-56 on Tuesday and currently holds the No. 3 seed.

While the Trinity Catholic and Westhill teams collide, Stamford will be facing Darien.

The Stamford girls team visits Darien (7 p.m.) in a critical clash as the Black Knights (9-8, 9-6) and Blue Wave (10-7, 9-6) are in a four-way tie for seventh with Staples and Fairfield Warde. The winner of Friday's clash will have the inside track to an FCIAC playoff spot.
