Chelsea Piers Connecticut (CPCT) announces the hiring of Natalie Grainger as its director of squash.
Grainger has been a dominant fixture in the squash world since turning pro in 1996 at age 18. Throughout her 15-year professional career, Grainger has won dozens of tournaments, rising in 2003 to be the No. 1 squash player in the world.

Currently ranked No. 1 in the United States, Grainger also is a leader and ambassador for the sport, having served for eight years as the president of the Women’s International Squash Players Association (WISPA). She also currently serves as a U.S. national coach.
In her role as director of squash at Chelsea Piers, Grainger will be responsible for hiring top-level squash professionals and developing Fairfield County’s dynamic squash programming, which will include beginner to advanced level instruction, private lessons, leagues, elite team training, camps, clinics and more. In addition, CPCT intends to host high-level tournaments and competitions throughout the year.

"Chelsea Piers represents quality and authenticity in sports and programming,” Grainger said. "The facilities for squash and tennis at Chelsea Piers Connecticut are unmatched in the area and I look forward to introducing kids to the sport as well as helping adults further their game.”
With 12 professional quality courts (11 singles and one doubles), the squash club at Chelsea Piers Connecticut will be one of the largest private squash facilities in the Northeast.
In addition to its 12 courts, the club will feature member locker rooms, a pro shop with stringing facilities, a comfortable lounge and unparalleled viewing areas. CPCT will also feature seven indoor tennis courts in its tennis center. Grainger will also serve as overall director for racquet sports at Chelsea Piers.
“Grainger is seen by many as one of the great female squash players in the history of the sport,” CPCT executive director Mollie Marcoux said. “She grew up watching her parents teach and has competed and coached at the highest level. Her depth of knowledge, dynamic personality and passion for the game will be a great asset to the program.”
Over a busy, hard-fought weekend, the Stamford Hurricanes Boys U13 Gold team earned mixed results
In Connecticut Cup play, Stamford advanced over Westport White 1 in dramatic fashion. Westport went up 1-0 midway through the second half. With just seconds remaining in regulation time, Matt Rutherford put one in for Stamford, assisted by Juan Medina. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game was decided by penalty kicks.
Tied at 2-2 after the first five shots (Angel Uribe and Joe Magnifico scored for Stamford and goalkeeper Justin Wexler denied two of Weston's shots), the teams moved into sudden death kicks. Weston's sixth shot went wide. Stamford's Matthew Alswanger responded with a shot to the low left corner, clinching the victory for the Hurricanes.
Also contributing to the win were Jason Alvarez, Jorge Cordova, Julian Gallego, Will Hallett, Darin Harper, Brandon Hoak, Ben Joseph, Mikolaj Musial, Benjy Robinov, Liam Shanahan and Uriy Yosypiv. Stamford meets Shelton in the next round of play.
In league play, Stamford lost 1-0 in a tough battle with a strong Weston team. Wexler and Hallett combined in goal for a total of eight saves. Strong defense was also played by Magnifico, Alswanger, Alvarez, Hoak and Shanahan.
