* -- clinched playoff spot
After a long weekend on the road, Stamford F.C. came home with two more victories.
On Saturday, Stamford F.C. posted a 3-0 win over Valeo F.C. in Bloomfield behind 16 saves by Danny Roca. Valeo displayed good possession, passing and ballhandling skills despite Stamford’s strong defense of Kevin Lam, Brad Kaptinski, Ariel De La Rosa and Jorge Ulloa and Max Atkinson, but it could not beat Roca.
Jeffery Beltran opened the scoring in the 36th minute of play when a cross by Victor Gjuraj in the middle found Isaac Lowell, who passed to Beltran for the goal.
Victor Gjuraj scored the second goal two minutes later on a well-placed direct kick to the lower left corner of the net.
In the second half, Tomas Pinto-Leite was driving down the left side when he was fouled in the box. Leao Valladares converted the penalty kick to complete the scoring.
On Sunday, Stamford rolled to an 8-1 win over Northeast F.C. in Mansfield Center.
Stamford found the net in the first three minutes when Lowell delivered a nice pass to Gjuraj, who placed his shot in the upper right corner. Three minutes later, Valladares scored on a breakaway.
Stamford showed excellent possession and passing skills from midfielders Max Atkinson, Ralph Danielle, Jack Duffy and Jeffrey Beltran. Fifteen minutes into the game, Beltran had a nice assist to Valladares, who scored his second goal. Lowell followed in his own rebound off the Northeastern keeper to make it 4-0 and Brad Kaptinski scored the fifth goal on a penalty kick shortly before halftime.
Early in the second half, Northeast scored on a penalty kick in the box. Roca blocked the first shot, but was called for a penalty for coming off the line, and Northeast’s second penalty shot was converted.
Lowell recorded his second goal with another nice assist by midfielder Beltran, Atkinson scored off a rebound from Valladares' shot on goal and left wing Tomas Pinto-Leite tallied Stamford's final score, converting a pass from Atkinson.
Stamford F.C plays Everton America CT at home on Sunday at Westhill at noon.
