The Westhill girls soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss to No. 6 seed Wilton on penalty kicks Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC girls playoffs in Stamford.
Wilton (9-3-5) bested the Vikings 4-2 in the penalty kicks to advance to Thursday's semifinal against Greenwich.
In Wednesday's other quarterfinals, top seed St. Joseph defeated No. 8 Trumbull 2-1 and No. 7 seed Fairfield Warde upset No. 2 New Canaan, 1-0. The Cadets and Mustangs will square off in the other semifinal.

Aleksandra Maciejewski scored late in the first half to give the third-seeded Vikings (11-2-4) the lead, but Tegan Helms tied the game 1-1 late in the second half to force overtime.
Casey Pearsall put the Warriors ahead 2-1 in the second overtime before Westhill's Nicole Erikson converted a penalty kick with under two minutes remaining to send the match to penalty kicks.

Allie Souza made 11 saves for the Vikings, who have advanced to the CIAC Class LL state championship game in each of the last two years.
No.8 seed Westhill suffered a 3-0 loss to top seed Darien and No. 6 Stamford fell to No. 3 Staples 2-1 Wednesday in the FCIAC field hockey quarterfinals.
Misha Strage scored the tiebreaking goal with under four minutes remaining for the Wreckers (9-3-3-1), who will take on top seed Darien in the semifinals on Thursday at Fairfield Ludlowe at 7 p.m.
Staples dominated the first half with a 9-3 edge in shots but only managed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Emily Ashken.
Kelsey Cognetta tied it for Stamford (10-6-1) just four minutes before Strage tallied the game winner for the Wreckers.
Lesly Sanchez made 11 saves for Stamford, including eight in the first half, when the Black Knights, also allowed 10 penalty corners while taking just one themselves.
Westhill put a major scare into Darien, holding the Blue Wave scoreless for more than 60 minutes.
After a 16-0 regular season, the Blue Wave received a scare Wednesday as they were held scoreless in the first Wednesday by No. 8 seed Westhill.
However, Claire Culliton, Galen Rohn, Lydia Ruhlin all scored in the second half for Darien.
In the other semifinal at 5 p.m. at Ludlowe, No. 6 New Canaan faces No. 2 Wilton. The Rams upset No. 3 Norwalk 1-0 and the Warriors advanced with a 4-0 win over No. 7 Fairfield Ludlowe.

CIAC has announced that the state Open cross country meet, scheduled for Friday at Manchester's Wickham Park, has been postponed until next Tuesday.
The site of the meet also has been changed as the girls and boys races now will be take place at at Hammonasset State Park in Madison. The boys will start at 1:45 p.m., followed by the girls at 2:30 p.m.
Darien won the Class L boys championship on Saturday at Wickham Park, which is unavailable for the state Open because of damage it suffered in Saturday's snowstorm.
The Open competition will determine which runners qualify for the New England championships Nov. 12 at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, R.I.
