Your interactive daily digest for all Stamford scores, schedules and standings - and a place to add information and images for all youth sports

Two years ago, when the Westhill girls soccer team won the CIAC Class LL state championship, it lost in the FCIAC playoffs.

Westhill is hoping history can repeat as it opens a quest for a third consecutive trip to the state finals on Thursday when the Vikings host No. 28 seed Danbury in a first-round game (2 p.m.).

Should Westhill (11-2-4) advance, it would take on either No. 12 Masuk or No. 21 Southington in the second round on Saturday.

After finishing third in the FCIAC during the regular season, the Vikings were upset by Wilton 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC playoffs.

Last season Westhill was denied a second consecutive state championship, falling to Shelton 1-0 in the Class L finals.

The Westhill boys (9-6-2) also are looking to make some noise in the state tournament after a remarkable run to the FCIAC playoffs. They are seeded 19th and play at No. 14 Bristol Central in the first round of the Class LL tourney on Friday (2 p.m.).

If Westhill advances, it is guaranteed to face an FCIAC opponent in the second round on Monday as it would take on the winner of the contest between No. 3 Norwalk and No. 30 Stamford (6-9-1), the last team into the tournament.

The Vikings dug themselves an early 0-5 hole, which included forfeiting three games for using an illegal player, but they made a dramatic 9-0-2 charge to qualify for the FCIAC playoffs as the No. 6 seed (losing in the quarterfinals to No. 3 seed Darien).

In girls volleyball, No. 15 Stamford (12-6) host No. 18 Westhill (11-7) in a Class LL first-round contest on Thursday at 7 p.m.. The winner gets No. 2 seed Cheshire, which has a bye in the first round.

Stamford (10-5-1) and Westhill (7-8-1) also qualified for the Class L field hockey tournament.

Stamford, the No. 10 seed, plays at No. 7 Simsbury on Thursday while No. 14 Westhill hosts No. 19 Fairfield Warde in a qualifying game on Thursday at 2 p.m. The winner visits No. 3 Norwalk on Friday (5 p.m.)

Former Connecticut stars Rudy Gay and Hasheem Thabeet will be among the NBA players who will take part in a charity game in Bridgeport on Nov. 18.

Gay (Memphis Grizzlies) and Thabeet (Houston Rockets) will appear at Webster Bank Arena for the "I-95 Pro Jam," which co-organizer Oliver Macklin said came about as a result of the lockout.

Gay and Thabeet will play on the "I-95 North" team, which consists of players from Connecticut, along with Waterbury resident Ryan Gomes of the Los Angeles Clippers and Jordan Williams of the New Jersey Nets.

Players on the "I-95 South" team, which consists of players from the D.C. area, include John Wall of the Washington Wizards, Iman Shumpert of the New York Knicks and Sam Young of the Memphis Grizzlies.

The game starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets will go on sale Nov. 10. Tickets prices start at $25.
