For the third time this week, the FCIAC showdown between Westhill (15-0, 17-0) and  Darien (14-1, 15-1) has been postponed with the contest now set to be played in Darien on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The latest postponement creates more logistical problems for the Vikings, who still have three games remaining. Westhill is scheduled to host New Canaan on Friday and Bassick on Saturday.

In light of all the postponements,  earlier this week the CIAC granted a waiver to its policy preventing games from being played on Sunday. The  Vikings could push back the Bassick game to Sunday or play a doubleheader on Saturday.

Another issue is that the FCIAC playoffs begin on Monday, meaning Westhill could be looking at playing four games in four straight days.

-- After the unyielding rain washed out Wednesday's entire FCIAC baseball and softball slate, the Stamford softball team will try again to clinch an FCIAC playoff spot on Thursday against city rival Trinity Catholic.

The Black Knights are tied with Wilton and Fairfield Warde for sixth with 10-6 conference records, one game ahead on ninth-place Staples (9-7).

With only two games left, Stamford can assure itself no worse than an eighth-place finish with a win over Trinity Catholic based on tiebreakers over Wilton, Fairfield Warde and Staples.  In any tiebreaker scenario, the Black Knights would have the advantage.
