Theboys basketball team handed Greenwich its second straight loss - and first at home this season -- with a 61-43 victory on Friday night.

Chris Waters scored 21 points for the Vikings, who took over first place in the FCIAC West. Westhill improved to 8-3 in the FCIAC and 9-4 overall.

Greenwich, which was coming off a 61-45 defeat at Bridgeport Central, dropped to 7-4 and 9-4.

The Vikings, who have been playing like a playoff team, began to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 16-8 to take a 27-17 halftime lead.

Westhill extended its advantage to 42-28 after three periods.

Samuel Dorissiant scored 11 points and Tony Dobbinson added 10 for the Vikings, who have won four in a row but still have to play Danbury, St. Joseph and Trinity Catholic.

Greg Donlic scored 18 points and Alex McMurray added 11 for the Cardinalls, who are off until Feb. 3 when they visit Trumbull. Greenwich dropped to 6-1 at home this season.

Kevin Leumene had 27 points and 10 rebounds Friday as the Trinity Catholic boys basketball overcame an early scare en route to a 76-65 victory over McMahon.

Casimir Schodrac and Jason Boswell each scored 18 points for the Crusaders, who improved to 10-3 overall and 9-2 in the FCIAC.

Trinity Catholic trailed trailed 21-20 after the first quarter before outscoring the Senators 20-11 in the second quarter to take a 40-32 halftime lead.

The Crusaders extended their cushion to 58-44 after the third period. McMahon, which only has one win, made a run in the fourth quarter, pulling within 10 with under four minutes remaining.

Jimmy Martinez scored 19 points and Larry McKinney added 16 points to pace McMahon, which dropped to 1-12 and 1-10 after expecting to contend for an FCIAC playoff spot at the beginning of the season.

The Senators had four players in double figures as Darkym Stroud contributed 12 and Shaka Moore chipped in with 10.

Paschal Chukwu had 10 rebounds for Trinity Catholic.

TJ Jackson scored 21 points Friday as the Danbury boys basketball team posted a 63-54 victory over Stamford.

DanyJoel Harris added 13 for the Hatters, who improved to 9-3 and 7-3 after holding off the Black Knights in the fourth quarter.

Danbury took a 47-30 lead into the fourth quarter and still led 60-44 with only three minutes renaining before Stamford sliced the deficit to seven. Elijah Mourning chipped in with 12 points for Danbury.


Barry Boderick scored 19 points to lead Stamford, which dropped to 5-7 and 4-6.

Shawn Padilla chipped in with 14 points and and Bryan Boderick added 11 for the Black Knights, who fell behind 33-21 at the intermission.

Danbury then outscored Stamford 14-9 in the third period to take a 17-point lead into the final quarter.

Mackenize Griffin scored her 1,000th career point Friday as the Trinity Catholic girls basketball team posted a 53-44 victory over McMahon.

Griffin scored 25 points against the Senators as the Crusaders improved to 9-6 overall and 8-5 in the FCIAC, leaving them alone in sixth place in the standings.

Ali Palma added 11 points and Kellie Hurd chipped in with 10 for Trinity Catholic, which led 14-10 after the first quarter and 26-17 at the half. Griffin also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Jazmin Taylor had 15 points and Kayla Crosswell added 13 for McMahon, which dropped 3-10 and 3-12.

The Senators will be eliminated from the state tournament with one more defeat.

Megan D'Allessandro scored 14 points Friday as the Westhill girls basketball team posted a 54-37 win over Greenwich.

Stephanie Roones added 13 for the Vikings, who improved to 9-5 overall and 8-4 in the FCIAC, but the victory was not as easy as the final score indicated.

Westhill only led 30-25 late in the second quarter before the Vikings used a 20-0 run to put away the contest.

Jenny Cespedes scored eight points to lead the Cardinals (3-12, 3-10), who had a two-game winning streak snapped.

Greenwich's leading scorer Caroline Barnett, who averages 14 points, missed her fourth straight game due to a concussion.

Casey Smith recorded a double-double as the undefeated Danbury girls basketball team defeated Stamford 55-42 on Friday.

Smith had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Hatters, who improved 14-0 overall and 12-0 in the FCIAC. Rebecca Gartner scored 18 points for Dambury and Rachel Gardner added 14.

After the teams battled to an 11-11 tie after the first quarter, Danbury outscored Stamford 19-8 in the second period to build a 29-19 halftime lead.

Kelsey Cognetta scored 13 points to pace Stamford, which dropped to 7-7, 7-5.

With the loss, the Black Knights fell into a four-way tie for seventh in the FCIAC standings with Norwalk, Staples and Fairfield Warde.

Lukas Znosko scored theee goals Saturday as the Westhill boys hockey team posted a wild 7-6 victory over Staples-Weston-Shelton at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Evan Shaulson added two goals for the Vikings, who won their second straight game to improve to 2-8-1.

Dan Rotkewicz and Billy Silk also scored for the Vikings, who rallied from a 3-0 deficit after the first period. Westhill trailed 5-4 entering the third period.

Forest Savage had three goals for the Wreckers, who dropped to 6-4 after their third straight loss.

Zachery Speed added two goals and Sean Stewart scored once for Staples-Weston-Shelton.

Saturday's game saw a combined five goaltenders see action. Adam Goldstone and Tyler Phillipson combined to make 23 saves for Westhill while the trio of Zach Polin, Jeffrey Burns and Dylan Batterson stopped 36 shots for the Wreckers.

John Ferguson scored three goals and Ryan Corcoran added two Saturday as the St. Joseph boys hockey team defeated Trinity Catholic 7-4 at the Shelton Rinks.

Logan Bruneau and Sean Hurley also scored for the Cadets, who improved to 9-4.

Steven Lambrinakos scored twice and Pat Corcoran and Jamey Shea each tallied once for the Crusaders, who dropped to 2-10.

Kyle Odierno made 20 saves for Trinity Catholic while Ron Johnson also stopped 20 shots for St. Joseph.
