Stamford Scores and Standings: Jan. 23

Last week for the boys basketball team included a 37-point win over Darien followed by a 46-point victory over New Canaan.

After defeating the Blue Wave 80-43 on Tuesday, the Crusaders doubled up New Canaan 86-43 on Friday.

Schadrac Casimir scored 19 points  -- including five 3-pointers - for Trinity Catholic, which did not get caught looking ahead to Tuesday's showdown at undefeated Ridgefield (10-0). 

Kevin Leumene added 18 points and Jason Boswell chipped with 16 for the Crusaders, who improved to 8-3.

Trinity Catholic built a 19-6 lead after the first quarter, then extended it 44-16 at halftime, turning the second half into garbage time.

After outscoring the overmatched Rams 24-10 in the third period, Trinity Catholic took a 68-26 lead into the final quarter.

Overall, the Crusaders finished with 11 3-pointers as they were just too much for the Rams.

Will Burger scored 12 points to pace New Canaan, which dropped to 1-9

The Westhill boys basketball team is simply a stronger unit with Chris Walters in the lineup.

Walters, who missed the first five games of the season because of a knee injury, scored 21 points Friday, leading the Vikings to a 80-52 rout of McMahon.

Tony Dobbinson contributed 19 points and Sam Dorissiant added 15 for the Vikings, who improved to 7-3 following their second straight victory.

Westhill built leads of 13-6 after the first quarter and 35-25 at halftime. The Vikings then ripped off a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 51-32 in the third quarter and led by as many as 29 points in the fourth period.

Darkym Stroud paced McMahon with a career-high 27 points, but he didn't get much help as the Senators dropped to 1-10. No other McMahon player had more than seven points.

Megan D'Alessandro poured in 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds Friday, leading the Westhill girls basketball team to a 62-37 victory over McMahon.

Steph Roones added 16 points for the Vikings, who improved to 7-5 overall and 6-4 in the FCIAC with a rough schedule of games coming up.

Over its next week games, Westhill will play for of the FCIAC's top teams in Stamford, Danbury, Staples and St. Joseph. The Vikings currently tied fir sixth in the FCIAC standings with Darien and Norwalk.

Westhill jumped out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter, the put away the game by outscoring McMahon 15-2 in the second period to build a 30-9 cushion at the half.

Kayla Croswell scored 12 points and Jazmine Taylor added 11 for McMahon, which dropped to 3-10 and 3-8.

Mackenzie Griffin scored 24 points Friday, leading the Trinity Catholic girls basketball team to a 54-47 victory over New Canaan.

The Crusaders, who snapped a three-game losing streak, improved to 7-6 overall and 6-5 in the FCIAC, tying the Rams, who dropped to 8-5 and 6-5, for ninth place in the league standings.

Griffin frequently got to the foul line, hitting 12 of her 18 free attempts, which turned out to be a huge factor in the game.

New Canaan fell despite another strong game from Sarah Mannelly, who scored 25 points.

The Rams got off to solid start, leading 11-4 after the first quarter, but the Crusaders turned things around in the second period, outscoring New Canaan 23-12 to take a 27-23 halftime lead.

After New Canaan pulled even early in the second half, the Crusaders led by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter en route to the victory.

Kelly Armstrong added nine points for New Canaan, which is off until hosting Norwalk on Friday in another key FCIAC contest with playoff implications.
