Shutouts don't usually occur in a basketball game, but they did Thursday.

The Stamford boys basketball team held Fairfield Ludlowe scoreless in the second period and cruised to a 74-34 victory over the Falcons.

Barry Boderick scored 22 points and brother Bryan added 19 for the Black Knights, who outscored the Falcons 15-0 in the second quarter to build a 29-12 halftime lead.

Stamford then outscored Ludlowe 45-22 in the second half to turn the contest into a rout. Barry Boderick (5) and Bryan Boderick (2) combined for seven 3-pointers.

Kenny Wright added 12 points for the Black Knights, who improved to 5-5.

Kelsey Cognetta scored 26 points Thursday as the Stamford girls basketball team overcame a sluggish start to post a 45-36 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe.

The Trinity Catholic and Westhill boys and girls teams are back in action on Friday.

On the boys side,  Trinity Catholic and Westhill appear to have easy assignments as the Crusaders host New Canaan and the Vikings visit McMahon. Each of their opponents have just one win this season.

Trinity Catholic (7-3), which appears to have righted the ship, is coming off an 80-43 win over Darien while New Canaan (1-9) suffered a 64-38 loss to Ridgefield on Tuesday.

Westhill (5-4) held on to defeat Fairfield Warde 75-70 on Tuesday after nearly squandering a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter. McMahon lost for the ninth time in 10 games this season with a 54-53 defeat to Trumbull.

In girls action, Westhill (6-5) McMahon (3-9) and Trinity Catholic (6-6) visits New Canaan (8-4) in a pair of 5:45 p.m. starts.

Westhill had a three-game winning streak snapped with Tuesday's 50-43 loss to Fairfield Warde.

Trinity Catholic is looking to snap a three-game slide following Tuesday's 57-49 setback to Darien.

However, facing New Canaan will not be easy. The Rams rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Ridgefield 59-54 on Tuesday. Kelly Armstrong scored a season-high 23 points for New Canaan.
