St. Joseph, which improved to 8-0, avenged a loss to Trinity Catholic in last year's FCIAC playoffs in which the Crusaders rallied from a 20-point deficit in the second half.

But Tuesday's win did not come easily, as Trinity Catholic (5-3) nearly rallied from a 15-point deficit in the first half. St. Joseph held a 36-24 lead at the intermission and a 51-41 advantage heading into the final period.

James Jenning added 14 points for the Cadets, who saw the Crusaders rally within 61-59 late in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Leumene scored 15 points to pace Trinity Catholic while Schadrac Casimir and Jason Boswell each added 14 for the Crusaders.

The teams certainly could meet again in this year's FCIAC playoffs. Since the 1990s, Trinity Catholic has won more league titles than any other FCIAC team.

Shawn Padilla added 10 for Stamford, which snapped a two-game losing streak.

Mike Yerina had 18 points to pace Trumbull, which dropped to 4-3. Tykler Paolini added nine for the Eagles, who climbed within 61-53 with just over two minutes remaining but got no closer.

It was a tough loss for the Falcons, who dropped to 2-6 after building a 32-24 halftime.

D'Alessandro finished with 25 points for the Vikings, who improved to 5-4. Ludlowe dropped to 5-5.
