The Trinity Catholic, Westhill and Stamford girls basketball teams continue their pursuit of FCIAC playoff spots on Friday.
Perhaps the two biggest games of the night take place at Trinity Catholic, which hosts Fairfield Warde (5:45 p.m.), and at Staples, which entertains Westhill (7 p.m.).
Remarkably, six teams are tied for sixth place in the crowded FCIAC playoff race -- Darien, Norwalk, Stamford, Staples, Warde and Westhill.
That group will be pared to no more than four teams followed Friday's against as Darien takes on Norwalk in addition to the Westhill-Staples battle Stamford hosts New Canaan at 5:45 p.m.
Trinity Catholic 10-6, 9-5) is coming off Tuesday's 56-39 win over Fairfield Ludlowe and holds the fifth spot in the FCIAC standings.
However, Warde, which starts five seniors, has been on fire, extending its winning streak to six games with Tuesday's 63-54 victory over New Canaan.
Westhill (9-6, 8-5) extended its streak to three games with a 54-37 win over Greenwich on Tuesday while Staples (9-6, 8-5) may have saved its season with a com-from-behind 53-48 victory over Wilton on Tuesday.
The Wreckers faced a 48-41 deficit with three minutes remaining, but ended the contest with a 12-0 run to snap a three-game losing streak.
Stamford (8-7, 8-5) defeated Ridgefield 66-44 on Tuesday to stay even with the other teams. New Canaan (8-7, 6-7) has dropped three in a row to fall two games out of a playoff spot and might be facing an elimination game on Friday.
In boys action on Friday, Trinity Catholic (11-3, 10-2) visits Fairfield Warde (7-6, 5-6), Westhill (9-4, 8-3) hosts Staples (7-6, 6-5) and Stamford (6-7, 5-6) is at New Canaan (1-12, 0-11).
Trinity Catholic defeated Fairfield Ludlowe 60-45 on Tuesday to extend its winning streak to six games while Westhill outscored Danbury 82-77 for its fifth straight triumph.
Stamford is coming off a 50-39 upset of Ridgefield, the FCIAC's second-best team, and is looking to get on a run.
