The boys basketball team needed a big win to perhaps jumpstart its season.
The Black Knights got it Tuesday night as they pulled off a major upset with a 50-39 victory over Ridgefield in Stamford.

Barry Boderick scored 16 points for Stamford, which snapped a two-game losing to improve to 6-7 overall and 5-6 in the FCIAC. Ridgefield, which
had been ranked eighth in the state last week, dropped to 11-2 and 9-2.
Stamford nursed a 34-32 after the third quarter, but allowed only seven points in the fourth period. The Black Knights outscored Ridgefield 33-17 in the second half.

It was a case of role reversal for Ridgefield, which had held its first 10 opponents under 50 points in jumping out to a 10-0 start. The Tigers suffered their first loss with a 48-44 defeat to Trinity Catholic last Tuesday, then rebounded to defeat Bridgeport Central 84-64 on Friday.
Kurt Steidl, coming off a 42-point game against Central, scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Tigers, who led 22-17 at halftime.
Kenny Wright added 12 and Bryan Boderick chipped in with 10 points for the Black Knights, who outscored Ridgefield 16-7 over the final eight minutes.
Seth Van Kuhn was Ridgefield's second-leading scorer with seven points.

Jason Boswell scored 19 points Tuesday, leading the Trinity Catholic basketball team to a 60-45 victory over Trinity Catholic.
Schadrac Casimir and Kevin Leumene each scored 11 points for the Crusaders, who improved to 11-3 overall and 10-2 in the FCIAC with their sixth straight victory.
Casmir also handed out seven assists and Paschal Chukwu grabbed 12 rebounds for Trinity Catholic, which tied Ridgefield for the FCIAC's second-best record. Ridgefield was upset by Stamford 50-39 on Tuesday.
Justin Berardino scored 14 points and Tyler Bulkley and Connor Peterson each chipped in with eight for the Falcons, who dropped to 3-10, 3-8.
Trinity Catholic held a 15-10 lead after the first quarter and led by as many 17 in the second quarter before Ludlowe closed within 33-22 at the half.
However, the Crusaders put away the contest by outscoring the Falcons 18-6 in the third quarter to take a 51-28 lead into the final period.

Samuel Dorissiant thrived in a high-scoring, fast-paced game.
Dorrisant scored 28 points Tuesday as the Westhill boys basketball team remained hot with an 82-77 victory over Danbury.
It was the fifth straight win for the Vikins, who improved to 9-4 overall and 8-3 in the FCIAC.
The Vikings got production from other sources as well as Chris Walters scored 22 points and Tony Dobbinson added 19. The loss dropped Danbury to 9-4 and 7-4.
The contest was close throughout with Westhill holding a 16-15 lead at halftime and a 33-27 advantage at halftime.
The Vikings then took a 48-42 lead into the final period when they were outscored 35-34 in a wild final eight minutes.
TJ Jackson scored 27 points and Danyjoel Harris added 24 for the Hatters, who never led after the first quarter.

Recent 1,000-point scorer Mackenzie Griffin scored 15 points Tuesday as the Trinity Catholic girls basketball team defeated Fairfield Ludlowe 56-39.
Before the game Griffin was recognized for her accomplishment as she became the seventh player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
Kellie Hurd added 10 points for the Crusaders, who improved to 10-6 and 9-5 in the FCIAC. With only four league games remaining, Trinity Catholic moved closer to a playoff spot as it holds down fifth place in the conference standings.
Briana Curran scored 12 points for Fairfield Ludlowe, which dropped to 5-9 and 4-6.
The Crusaders started a bit slowly and only led 12-10 after the first period, but they took control during an 18-3 blitz in the second quarter for a 30-13 halftime.
Trinity Catholic then outscored Ludlowe in the third period 14-7 to extend its margin to 44-20 entering the final quarter.

Kelsey Cognetta poured in 23 points Tuesday, lifting the Stamford girls basketball team to a 66-44 victory over Ridgefield.
Brianna Gordon added 11 for the Black Knights, who improved to 8-7 overall and 8-5 in the FCIAC.
Stamford built a 36-21 halftime lead and put away the contest by ourtscoring the Tigers 21-12 in the third period to take a 57-33 lead into the final quarter.
Samme Jancin scored 13 points for Ridgefield, which dropped to 5-10 and 5-8.
Stamford is in a remarkable six-way tie for sixth place in the FCIAC standings with Darien, Norwalk, Staples, Fairfield Warde and Westhill.

Casey Smith scored 15 points Tuesday, leading the undefeated Danbury girls basketball team to a 51-27 drubbing of Westhill.
Rachel Gartner scored 12 points and Rebecca Gardner added 10 for the Hatters, who improved to 15-0.
Megan D'Alessandro scored 10 points for the Vikings, who dropped to 8-6 and 8-5.
Westhill dropped into a five-way tie for sixth place in the FCIAC standings with Darien, Norwalk, Staples, Fairfield Warde and Stamford with five games remaining in the season.
