Stamford Scores And Standings: Dec. 22

has named Matt Stack as its director of rinks.

For the past seven years, Stack worked for BlueStreak Sports Training in Stamford, where he was one of the four original partners and most recently acted as facility general manager.

Prior to BlueStreak, Stack played hockey in the United Hockey League for the Adirondack Ice Hawks and is currently both a High School level coach and scout for the United States Hockey League.

In his role as director of rinks at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, Stack will be responsible for hiring top-level coaches and instructors, programming the twin ice rinks for both ice hockey and figure skating, and developing creative programming for skaters of all ages and ability levels.

The skating program will include a dynamic learn to skate program, figure skating freestyle programming, ice shows, skating camps and more. Beginner to advanced level instruction, private lessons, leagues, elite team training, camps, clinics and more will be available for skaters and hockey players. In addition, CPCT will host high-level hockey tournaments throughout the year.

With two NHL-sized, professional quality rinks, The Rinks at Chelsea Piers Connecticut will be the newest and most high-tech ice facility in the area. There will be ample locker rooms, off-ice training facilities and bleacher seating at the Connecticut facility.

“Matt is one of the most dedicated and creative coaches that we have met in both girls and boys ice hockey,” said Mollie Marcoux, Executive Director of CPCT.

“In addition to his coaching talents, Matt has spent the past seven years creating programming for athletes at all levels and we look forward to him using his knowledge and experience to develop creative hockey and skating programming to meet all of our athletes’ needs.”

Stack has enjoyed great success coaching prep school, college and professional players. He has coached 11 NHL Draft picks, 94 Divison I athletes, 17 Professional players, two US Olympians and more than 250 prep school players.

Stack also is currently one of two scouts for the New England USHL and coaches the U-16 Boys Mid-Fairfield Blues and U-16 Girls Mid-Fairfield Stars In addition, he is the assistant coach of the Rye Country Day girls hockey program and a USA Hockey Level IV certified coach.

Last year, tack was named a Master Trainer by Athletic Republic, a distinction that only thirty trainers hold out of the 1,100 in the Athletic Republic network.

A graduate of Millbrook School and New England College, Stack was a two-sportcaptain in ice hockey and lacrosse and helped lead the Pilgrims to three championships in eight seasons with two finals defeats.

Rob Celentano and Tyler Hackett each scored three goals as the Branford boys hockey team overpowered Stamford 10-4 at the Terry Conners Rink on Wednesday.

The Hornets, who improved to 3-0, surged to a 5-1 lead after the first period when they outshot the Black Knights by a 19-4 margin.

CJ DiVaglin scored twice and Cole Savona, Zach Fornacciari each added one for Stamford, which fell to 0-3.

The Black Knights pulled within 7-4 in the third period before Branford scored three straight to put away the contest.

Austin Hackett added two goals and Tony Pascale and Kade Gregory each tallied once for the Hornets. Branford's Jordan Criscuolo had five assists.

Mike Troiano scored a hat trick Wednesday, leading the West Haven boys hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Trinity Catholic.

Austin Hansen scored twice for the Blue Devils, who improved to 3-0, while Justin Brown and Steven Lambrinakos had the goals for the Crusaders (1-3).

Luke Finneran scored two goals as the boys hockey team defeated Westhill 4-1 Wednesday at the Terry Conners Rink for its first win of the season.

The Cardinals, who were outscored 11-1 in their first two games against West Haven and Notre Dame of West Haven, improved to 1-2.

Westhill slipped to 0-2.

Greenwich nursed a 2-1 lead before away the game with a pair of goals in the final two minutes.

Finneran opened the scoring in the second period, then tallied again to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead with seven minutes remaining in the third.

The Cardinals had to kill another penalty at the end of the period and one more to start the third before Finneran scored the first of his two goals to put Greenwich up 2-0 with 7:05 to play.

Westhill's Luke Znosko halved the deficit a minute later.but Greenwich's Brett Backman restored the two-goal margin with 1:31 remaining before Finneran completed the scoring in the final minute.
