A few years ago, the CIAC introduced an option allowing football teams in the state to forego traditional spring practice to start their summer practice a week earlier.
Teams could chose one or the other but not both. A total of 69 schools, including Stamford, opted for the latter. That means the Tigers will start conditioning on Tuesday and conduct their first formal practice on Aug. 22.
Interestingly, however, Ridgefield and Stamford were the only FCIAC schools to take that route.
Here is a list of the 69 schools, according to the CIAC, who will get things going on Tuesday:
(The teams that went the tradition route won't be able to begin conditioning until Aug. 22 and their first practices until Aug. 27):

Alex Rossetti carded a 78 Sunday to win the Stamford City Golf Championships at Sterling Farms.
A former Westhill High standout, Rossetti entered the third and final round tied for the lead with Jim Rominello and Cahal McMonagle at 147 after the first 36 holes last weekend. Rossetti ended up posting a one-stroke victory.
In the women’s division, Debbie Johnson, who plays out of Sterling Farms, shot a final-round 77 to win her second straight title and fourth overall.
It is hard enough to compete in a triathlon but add intermittent torrential downpours, and Sunday's 25th annual Volvo Stamford-Greenwich Cup may have qualified as a quadrathlon.
On a course that would normally see the winner finish in an hour or less, the heavy winds on the sound and the wet pavement forced the athletes to navigate the half-mile swim, 15-mile bike and three-mile run course with extreme caution.
Race founder, sponsor and organizer Mickey Yardis, of Threads and Treads, walked up and down the beach and transition stage reminding the athletes that, “even though EMS is all over the course, we would not like to use them.”
Mitch West, 41, of Wilton, was the first elite wave finisher. He navigated the course in a time of 1:10:49. Kevin Farley, 30 and Brian Mailo, 40, both of whom traveled from NYC’s Upper West Side to compete in this event, were second and third, respectively.
In the woman’s elite, Kelly Montgomery, 30, of Wallingford came across the finish line in 1:16:30. She finished sixth overall in the elite division and was followed by Rose Shabet, 30, of Darien, the only other woman to compete at the elite level.
