Stamford Legion Tops Stamford Warriors to win Laureno 15 Championship [Video]

Logan McCullogh throws complete-game two-hitter

The 25th edition of the Sharkey Laureno Tournament concluded Tuesday night as Stamford Legion shut out the Stamford Warriors 3-0 to win the 15-year-old title.

The game produced very little offense but great pitching. The Warriors' tandem of Stanley Block and Mike Palumbo combined for 10 strikeouts. With that kind of control, it would seem the Warriors should have been in position to win the game.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, Legion pitcher Logan McCullogh was just as sharp, striking out seven while allowing only two hits over seven innings.

McCullogh also provided all the offense his team needed, singling home Billy Murphy, who hit the first pitch of the game for a single, for the game's first run.

McCullogh also provided himself with an insurance run in the third, doubling home tournament MVP Randy Polonia. Ryan Lee's single plated McCullogh with the Legion's third run.

The Warriors could never get anything going, sending four men to the plate three times in the game and twice ending inning with runners getting picked off.

McCullogh also produced four perfect innings, keeping the Warriors off balance with a mixture of offspeed pitches that either had them popping up or swinging out of the strike zone.

The Sharkey Laureno tournament has raised more $240,000 in scholarship money for graduates of the Stamford Babe Ruth League who go on to college.
