Stamford Baseball Beats Greenwich, 3-1 [Video]
Black Knights score three unearned runs to win fourth straight and snap Cardinals' four-game winning streak
Despite being held to just two hits by Dylan Callahan, the surging Stamford baseball team posted a 3-1 victory over Greenwich on Wednesday afternoon.
Following a 2-5 start, the Black Knights (4-5, 6-5) have won four straight to climb over the .500 mark as they look to jump into the FCIAC playoff picture.
Trevor Kane, who also gave up just two hits, earned his fourth win of the season, walking one and striking out six.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Greenwich, which surrendered three unearned runs to drop to 4-5, 4-5.
Stamford scored its first run in the third inning without the benefit on a hit. Jason LoRusso reached on a two-out error by shortstop, stole second and scored on a throwing error by Callahan.
In the fifth, Stamford snapped a 1-1 tie. Bryan Polonia was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, advanced on an outfield error and scored on Brandon Docimo's double.
The Black Knights, who were held hitless through four innings, tacked on an insurance in the sixth as Nick Palumbo singled with one out, stole second and came home on another miscue in the field.
Callahan, who went the distance, finished with no walks and nine strikeouts.
The Cardinals plated their only run in the top of the fifth, when Brian Hoff singled with one out and eventually scored
the tying run. Greenwich loaded the bases in the sixth, but squandered the threat as Casey Gaynor was thrown out at the plate tryingto score on a wild pitch.
