Stamford Advances to Junior American Legion State Finals
Will play Bristol in Sunday's final after defeating Trumbull 14-6 on Saturday
Stamford advanced to the finals of the junior American Legion state tournament with a 14-6 victory over Trumbull on Saturday afternoon at Muzzy Field in Bristol.
Stamford reached the semifinals after scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat West Hartford 5-4 on Thursday. It will face Bristol in Sunday's final, which is set for 1 p.m. at Muzzy Field.
Bristol advanced with a 1-0 win over top seed Bethel on Saturday. Bristol actually lost to Ridgefield 8-5 in the quarterfinals, but it was awarded a victory when Ridgefield was disqualified for using an ineligible player.

Brandon Curto had a two-run home run and drove in three runs for Stamford, which erased a 4-3 deficit with seven runs in the third inning to take control.
Stamford is seeking its first junior legion state title. It would be the town's first Legion state championship since the senior team won the crown in 1957.
