Silas Redd Transferring From Penn State to USC For Fall Season

Redd, who went to high school in Stamford, becomes the second Penn State player — and the first starter — to officially transfer from the school since the sanctions were announced.

In the wake of the and subsequent , Silas Redd, the junior tailback from Norwalk, dealt another major blow to the crippled Tuesday when he announced he was a transferring to University of Southern California for the fall season.

“This has obviously been a very busy, emotionally draining week for me and my family,” Redd said in a statement released late Tuesday afternoon, which can be read in The Nittany Extra. “As many of you know, playing football at Penn State has been a dream of mine since I was seven years old, and I will be forever grateful that this dream became a reality. This is the reason the decision I have made is so difficult for me.”

Redd, who attended school in Stamford, becomes the second Penn State player — and the first starter — to officially transfer from the school since the sanctions were announced.

Under the NCAA sanctions, he and other players are free to leave the program without penalty. Earlier this week, reserve corner back Tim Buckley announced he was leaving Penn State for North Carolina State.

Redd, who graduated from The in 2010, had a with the Nittany Lions, rushing for 1,241 yards and scoring seven touchdowns. He in an interview with Patch last June.
