Stamford High School Yearbook Receives National Recognition

After some really hard work by some really talented students creating a really beautiful product, the Stamford High School Yearbook has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and a First Class Honor by the National Scholastic Press Association. Really.

The 2013 yearbook, aptly titled Thirteen, was also chosen by the book's publisher, Walsworth Yearbooks, as a selection for its Cover Gallery Showcase.

Judges from three organizations issued points for criteria like content, presentation, page design, use of photography, and writing. Thirteen scored 813 points out of a possible 1,000 from Columbia, 3,730 points—exceeding the first place minimum by 30—from National Scholastic, and 910 points out of 1,000 from American Scholastic.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our yearbook staff, both students and advisors, for their hard work and dedication to producing this award-winning yearbook,” said Stamford High School Principal Donna Valentine. “To receive confirmation from not one but three highly respected organizations that our yearbook is top rate, confirms what we believed all along.”

As part of the award process, the school receives a formal critique of its publication, which provides specific feedback and suggestions for improvement that are considered in the following year’s publication.

The yearbook class is taught by Art teacher Wendy Wade, and English teacher Robert Lutz.
