Stamford Students Win Awards

The five were part of several students who were recognized during a Tues. Jan 22, Board of Education meeting.

Several Stamford-area students were recognized for awards they'd won during a Board of Education meeting on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2013.

Chris Soule, a Westhill High Football Quad Captain, was named runner-up in the Timex Heart of a Giant Program, which "recognizes high school football players in the Tri-State are for commitment, determination and character."Soule won a $2,500 gift card to The Sports Authority.

Marten Martensson, Anesha Advani and Kris Bittel, of AITE, were selected as the People's Choice winning team in the "New Franchise" category at the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) World Series of Innovation Contest. The team developed a new franchise business idea called Seven Seasonings. The team won a $2,000 cash prize and $250 Amazon.com gift card they would split amongst the members.

AITE students Annley Nirschel and teammate Sarah Shillinglaw, who wasn't present, were selected as the Adjudicator's Choice Winner in the "Fresh Take on Fitness" category in the same NFTE competition. They developed the Go Banz, a product that rewards healthy activity with unlocked gaming and social media perks. The team won a $2,000 cash prize and $250 Amazon.com gift card they would split amongst the members.
