Stamford Marriott Kicks Off Collection of Local Student Art

Fifteen high school art students had the honor of having their art placed on permanent display this week following the establishment of "a very close connection" between the Stamford Marriott and the Stamford Public School District.

Unveiled on Monday, five students from each of the city's three high schools were selected to have their work placed on permanent display in the hotel after the Marriott approached the district with the idea. Those students are the first in a collection district officials anticipate will be added to annually.

"The Marriott reached out to Stamford Public Schools," said District Content Leader for Visual Arts Paul Cusano. "It was an idea from Ron Antonucci from the Marriott Corporation. He considered the possibility of forming a very close connection between our two organizations. A community project of sorts."

The Marriott provided funding that helped get the students works printed and framed. Cusano said the funding was a huge help in getting the students' works displayed and said he was so happy to see the students get the recognition they deserved.

"The students do various shows throughout the year, but this is the first of this type of show," Cusano said. "They can say they have something in a permanent collection. And it's a wonderful experience for us as teachers of these students, we're just as proud of these students' accomplishments as the students."
