Pancakes, Pets and Practicing for the SATs

This week, teens meet to improve library services, get some practice for the SATs while kids can have breakfast with Elmo and enjoy a night of fun at the Jewish Center.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Where/When: on Mar. 2 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: Teens Making A Difference welcomes new participants and members to the Library's teen advisory group which includes boys and girls from middle and high school and promotes and encourages teen reading as well as attracts teens to the library. Monthly meetings include book discussions and offers a chance to help librarians plan library programs for teens.

Why Go: The Stamford Jewish Community Center will host two great events for kids. The “Amazing Art Event” for grades K- 2 will offer kids a chance to learn about clay sculpting techniques and make a collage of their own versions of famous paintings. Please bring a smock (old shirt will do) and the “J·Gaming Tournament” for Grades 3 - 5 will allow kids to lace up their sneakers and compete against friends for the highest scores in games including: iDance, Light Space Wall, 3-Kick and J·Mat. Highest scores win prizes. Drinks and snacks provided.

Pricing:  Members: $10 / Non-Members: $15.

Where/When: on Mar. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Stop by for a chance to see the animals,  adopt them and go home with free pet services and gifts. This event is also hosting a blanket drive and is accepting donations for blankets, pet beds, dog and cat food, new pet toys and crates to be used for the homeless cats, dogs, puppies and kittens at the shelter and to give to those pet owners who cannot afford to care for their animals.

Where/When:  on Mar. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go:  Tutoring Club provides local high school students an opportunity to experience a full-length College Board SAT test, free of charge in a relaxed environment where scores will not appear on transcripts. In addition, a full analysis is given on strengths and weaknesses one week following the practice examination.

Where/When: on Mar. 6 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Visit the Stamford Jewish Community Center for a Shalom Breakfast with Elmo. This event is for kids age birth-5 and family to have pancakes and hear stories with Elmo.

Pricing:  Members: $5 / Non-Members: $8


FIRST COUNTY BANK MAPLE SUGAR SUNDAY

Where/When: on Mar. 6, 11 a.m- 3 p.m.

Why go: Pancakes, fresh maple syrup, tree tapping demonstrations — why not? Plus, visitors will be able to vote for their favorite maple syrup recipe in the second annual Chef's Challenge.

Pricing: Members: $5, Non-members: 10, Children 3 & under, Family Plus & Above Members: Free
