Letter: Stamford's Core Curriculum Plan a "Disaster"

To the Editor,

Curious timing causes me to send you this note.  Your article on the recent testing results in Stamford happen to come out the day after the Stamford Board of Education met to decide what to do about the next round of spring testing.

Since I sat in on that meeting last night, I can tell you there is considerable confusion and indecision.  There is certainly no consensus.  All blame for the board's problems can be laid at the gnarled feet of the common core curriculum.

It is a disaster about which too many people know too little.

Moreover, the troubles caused by common core are only going to get worse.  The only beneficiaries of this scam are the federal government who are using this as an opportunity for stealth take over of public education, and the major education publishers.

Millions of children are being afflicted with this mediocre system of instruction.  It is worse than several steps of dumbing down public education.  You will see.

All the best,
Cort Wrotnowski
