Hamilton Appointed Acting Superintendent of Stamford Public Schools

The Board of Education unanimously appointed Deputy Superintendent Winifred Hamilton as Starr's temporary replacement.

At a special meeting Tuesday night, the Board of Education unanimously approved Winifred Hamilton, ' current deputy superintendent, to be acting superintendent for 90 days effective July 1.

Superintendent Joshua Starr’s contract was also amended that night to end June 30. Starr a position as superintendent of Montgomery County (Md.) Public Schools in April.

“I’ve known Winnie for 30 years that I’ve been involved here, Board Vice President Jerry Pia said. "She has an excellent understanding of the school system and a lot of experience and history. I’m looking forward to her leadership over the next few months.”

Hamilton will serve as acting superintendent while the Board of Education begins their search for an interim and permanent replacement for Starr.

“I’d like to add my support,” board member Jackie Heftman said. “This sends a strong signal of continuity and I’m very happy to be working with Dr. Hamilton.”

Hamilton has long served Stamford Public Schools and prior to her role as deputy superintendent, she was a principal and assistant principal at .

“I’ve been with the district many years and have been fortunate to have had many different roles,” Hamilton said. “I’m looking forward to working as acting superintendent and appreciate the Board’s support.”
