NAVIGATING THE TRANSITION FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE FOR SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS

Special needs high school students transitioning to college will face many challenges in meeting the demands of this new environment on an academic, organizational and social basis.

Join Jewish Family Service College Consultant Claire Friedlander and Moderator of the JFS College Ahead Program, as she focuses on:

  • the importance of parent/student participation in the transition planning throughout high school
  • specific plans and options for placement throughout the country that are geared to enhance the emotional and vocational growth of young people
  • disability services at the college level to meet your student's needs
  • student self-advocacy

Attorney Lawrence Berliner, special education law attorney and advocate, will address student's basic legal and educational rights in the transition process.
