An American Idol pays a visit, a notice from Avon Theatre causes a stir and the state approves a budget plan.

Arts

Patch contributor Caroline Sadowska got the on the national attention that the received recently thanks to Twitter. After receiving come complaints about a new movie being shown starring Brad Pitt, the theatre decided to post a "no refund" sign, which caused a bit of a stir.

And on Thursday, fans of "American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze to Columbus Park to watch him perform at Alive @ Five. DeWyze's opening act Stalking Sally won the Stamford Downtown Bandapalooza competition on June 16.

Business

Government

Mayor Michael Pavia his concerns to Patch on Thursday about the possibility that Gov. Malloy could cut state aid to Stamford to close the budget gap. Those worries subsided, however, when state lawmakers a plan to close a $1.6 billion hole in the governor’s $41.1 billion budget as part of a special legislative session at the state capitol in Hartford early Friday morning. Malloy was prompted by Democrats to propose additional layoffs of up to 1,000 more workers instead of cutting state aid.


Police & Fire

Three Stamford residents were last Saturday for shooting guns erratically on a Thimble Island in Branford. Stony Creek residents of the island later recalled the experience, which they described as "stupid" and "reckless."


Schools

At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, dozens of parents and students from the Rippowam Middle School community wearing their green Rippowam T-shirts in support of assistant principal Lisa Mackey remaining at the middle school in the fall. Mackey received notice that after years at the school she will be moved to Northeast Elementary. Likewise, Northeast Assistant Principal Donna Gardner will be moving to Rippowam.
