According to the Connecticut Post, the Board of Finance hired Manhattan-based forensic auditing fire Kroll Associates Inc. to investigate the allegations in May 2010. Former chairman Joe Tarzia requested the investigation after two highways employees delivered $3,149 in cash to Office of Policy and Management director Pete Privitera for the sale of city snowplows.

Stamford police found no evidence of a crime after receiving Kroll Associates' audit report, which the Board of Finance approved $250,000 to complete. The report was then sent to the State's Attorney's office, who after a few months handed it back over to Stamford police.
