Welcome to "Minutes with the Mayor," a weekly video feature where Stamford Patch interviews Mayor Michael Pavia about the issues facing the city, what topics government boards and committees will be discussing and what scheduled events city residents need to know about.
This week, Pavia addresses the investigation carried out by the state and the into whether employees of the Office of Operations were selling small pieces of city scrap metal for cash over the past few decades.
According to the Connecticut Post, the Board of Finance hired Manhattan-based forensic auditing fire Kroll Associates Inc. to investigate the allegations in May 2010. Former chairman Joe Tarzia requested the investigation after two highways employees delivered $3,149 in cash to Office of Policy and Management director Pete Privitera for the sale of city snowplows.
Stamford police found no evidence of a crime after receiving Kroll Associates' audit report, which the Board of Finance approved $250,000 to complete. The report was then sent to the State's Attorney's office, who after a few months handed it back over to Stamford police.
State's Attorney David Cohen and Stamford police announced on Thursday that no arrests would be made.
