Tanning Bed Restriction Bill Dies in Committee

The bill would have fined salon owners up $100 for allowing residents under 18 to use tanning beds without parental consent.

The General Assembly's Public Health Committee took no action Friday on legislation that would require residents under 18 to get parental consent before using a tanning bad, according to the Hartford Courant. Friday was the last day the committee had to approve or reject the proposal. 

Dr. Andrea Asnes, a professor of pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, told the Courant that the committee's decision to not take action is "an embarrassment" for Connecticut.

The proposal, , would have fined tanning salon owners up to $100 if they didn't comply. The state currently requires residents under 16 to get parental consent before using a tanning bed.
