State Unemployment Rate Dips to 8.9 Percent

According to BusinessWeek, this marks the first time that the rate has fallen below 9 percent in almost two years.

Connecticut's unemployment rate decreased to 8.9 percent last month, the state Labor Department reported on Thursday, marking the first time that the rate has fallen below 9 percent in two years, according to BusinessWeek.

The state gained 3,400 jobs in September, particularly in the leisure and hospitality sectors. According to the Connecticut Post, however, the state lost over 1,000 manufacturing, construction and transportation and warehousing positions.
